I dont understand your conditions. No one should be untouchable. Would they be easy trades? No. But everyone from David Clarkson to Wayne Gretzky has been traded. There is no such thing as untouchable.

Here is what you do

1. Buyout Ericsson
2. Expose helm, dekeyser, Howard and abdlekader, Why? Because they simply are not worth current contracts
3. Stop with the team Michigan crap
4. Trade green to Edmonton for their 1st plus a prospect
4. Trade Tatar to Anaheim or Minny for a dmen down they can't protect (add in required pick or prospect to accomplish)
5. Sign two free agents to one year deals to deal away at the deadline for more picks in 2018 & 2019
6. Go with the kids (Larkin, Martha, AA, bert, svechnikov) win or lose they play a ton

Holland isn't leaving Mrazek unprotected we could get something for him. And a buy out of Ericsson would be like $1.666 million this year and then like $1.388 million for the next 5 years no thanks already owe Weiss $7.5 million over the next 4 years can't afford more dead money.

Nuge + 22nd OA for Mantha + Howard (cap dump).

Nuge's numbers were underwhelming this year, but his role changed quite a bit as well. He still needs to get stronger, but there's not really many deficiencies to his game beyond that. I think he can bounce back to 50+ point production, which are numbers for an above average 2C. He's only a year and a half older than Mantha, so it's not like it hinders the rebuild.

Wouldn't mind Nuge but not at the cost of Mantha, I believe that Mantha will be a special player possibly in the 35/35 range or close to it.

We don't want Nyquist and will have much, much, much better offers than that on the table.

Stand pat. Re-sign anybody that shows promise. Other than that, let nature take its course until the bad contracts either expire or become somewhat tradeable.

No FA signings. Sell off rentals. No player for player trades unless its an absolute no-brainer(in other words...no trades unless its a rental going the other way. Lets face it, nobody's gifting us anything close to being considered an immediate upgrade.)

1) Establish as team policy that A)no contract will entered into with any player that will result in a recapture penalty and B)any player that is 35 yrs. or older is signed to one yr deals at a time.

2) Send the 3rds. that we have from Toronto and Fla. to Vegas so that they take Ericsson in the ED.

3) Stop trading draft picks. In the 16 yrs. between 1997 and 2012, we traded our #1 pick(to help with the playoff runs)a total of 10 times. While I realize that the picks would all have been late in the 1st rd., but still, one can easily assume that at least a couple of those picks could have become impact players.

4) With the exception of Hakam Andersson, fire the entire scouting dept.

Here's a list of who we chose and, more importantly, who we didn't choose in recent drafts. Numbers in brackets are NHL games played.

2016: No grade

2015:
1st. rd.(19 OA): Svechnikov(2). Over looked Konency(70), Aho(82), Carlo(82)

2014
1st. rd.(15 OA): Larkin-no problem
No second rd pick
3rd. rd.(63 OA): Turgeon(0). Overlooked Tryamkin(79), Point(68)
4th. rd.(106 OA):Ehn(0). Overlooked Arvidsson(142)

2013
1st. rd.(20 OA): Mantha-no problem
2nd.rd.(48 OA): Nastasiuk(0). Overlooked Lehkonen(73),Pesce(171),
3rd. rd.(79 OA): Janmark-Nylen(traded to Dallas-73) Overlooked Duclair(157), Copp(142)

2012
1st rd.: No Pick
2nd rd.(49 OA): Frk(2). Overlooked Sissons(109), Tierney(202), Severson(203), Gostisbehere(142)
3rd. rd.(80 OA): Paterson(0). Overlooked(and this one is a real killer) Parayko(160), Andersen(191).
Also missed out on in this draft after we picked AA at 110 OA: Slavin(145),Carrick(120), Hutton(146), Brown(89).

2011
1st. rd.: No pick
2nd. rd: we had 3 picks. After picking Jurco with 35 OA and before we took Ouelett at 48 we overlooked Jenner(267), Rask(242),Saad(368). We took Sproul at 55 OA and managed to overlook Kucherov who TB took at 58(sigh)

2010
Between picking Sheahan at 21 OA and Jarnkronk at 51 OA the biggies that we overlooked include Kuznetsov(Wash@26),Coyle(S.J.@28),Nelson(NYI@30) and Faulk(Caro@37 OA)

Do overs:
2015: Aho over Svetchnikov
2014: Pointe over Tuergeon/Arvidsson over Ehn
2013: Pesce over Nastasiuk/Duclair over Janmark-Nylen
2012: Ghost over Frk/Parayko over Patterson
2011: Saad over Jurco/Kucherov over Sproul
2010: Kuznetsov over Sheahan

2017/2018 lineup
Zetts/Kuznetsov/Kucherov
Saad/Larkin/Mantha
Aho/Pointe/Arvidsson
AA/Helm/Glendening
Bertuzzi/Duclair

DDK/Parayko
Kronner/Pesce
Ghost/Jensen
Ericsson

Mrazek/Howard/Coreau

One can only imagine but I'm pretty sure that the playoff streak would still be alive.
