Do you know by chance when the Import Draft is and how that works? Thanks again!

It's usually the Wednesday after the NHL draft, at least from memory.

The process is two rounds, going in the order of worst in leagues, to the best, like the OHL draft. However, all three leagues (WHL, O, and Q) are involved. I don't know which order they go, but it'll look something like this...

1. WHL
2. OHL
3. Q
4. WHL
5. OHL
6. Q
7. WHL
8. OHL
9. Q

They do that for two rounds, covering all teams that have picks. Some teams tend to pass if they have a later fist, or second round pick.

Most picks are not random picks like the OHL draft, but pre-determined picks. A lot of networking and connections go on, so if you see a player chosen, chances are something was pre-worked. Not all players are guaranteed to report, however.

A few recent examples of "what just happened?"...

- Windsor was rumoured to be the destination for Tolchinsky, but SSM grabbed him a few picks earlier. This left Windsor scrambling a bit.

- Windsor drafted DeLaRosa from Sweden two years ago, but a snag was hit and he didn't make it over.

It's usually a pretty fun thing to pay attention to, but not as "watched", if you will, as the OHL draft.

.

I will add that the league picking first rotates every year. For example, the OHL (Sarnia) had the top pick in 2014, WHL (Vancouver) in 2013, etc.

Therefore, the QMJHL will have the first overall pick in the 2015 CHL Import Draft meaning Acadie-Bathurst will have the top pick as the lowest team in the Q

Oliver Kylington is not coming over. He just signed a two year deal with Fargestad. Another top prospect is Olli Juollevi

According to Mark Hunter the Leafs 68th pick Martins Dzierkals will be coming over to play in the CHL next year.

I am sure he will pull some strings to have him drafted. At worst he will be a Knight (although I am not sure if this is ideal from the Leafs POV because of how stacked the team should be).

We did a run down on a ton of prospects who should be picked in the Import draft at Overtime Sports Nations, there's two parts which include stats and scouting reports,

http://overtimesportsnation.com/chl-import-draft-players-to-watch-scouting-reports/

http://overtimesportsnation.com/chl-import-draft-players-to-watch-scouting-reports-part-2/

This first link is mostly 96 and 97 born players while the second one is 98's and NHL drafted players.

I'd be VERY VERY surprised if Puljujarvi, Rantanen, Gurianov or Kylington come over to NA next year.
