Plus additional injuries could happen across the league leaving a team in a position to add someone like him.

LA has also been a dumpster fire (we’re not much better, but we are ) and his production might go up here.

I think of all the retreads Bergevin has brought in that he has the most upside. Yes he is 36 but he does have offensive instincts. The Montreal crowd could awaken him.

Good mix of everything. I'd like to start him like that.

Is he slow now? Watched some of his highlites from his time with the kings and it looked to me like he can still move around okay.

Haven't seen a full game of his though, so serious question.

I think both Kovy and Scandella make us a better team, and we don't have to give up anything of value.

The question is whether that should really be our goal when we're on pace for 84 points and it being such a good draft year.

Like I said though, I thought they were shrewd moves. Kovy could help our PP and Marco will replace Kulak so I'm good with that.

I also see this as what is likely the truth to this. There is no way management actually think this is going to "save" the season and they know it. Habs are still sailing in the same direction IMO.

We have no issues with contract slots. All the good young forwards currently in the system are already on the team. It's the ultimate boom or bust move. It doesn't even cost us a draft pick. And the salary is pro-rated, which means the actual payout is around$325k.

I think with a full roster I’d like to see:

    Tatar Danault Gally
    Drouin Domi Suzuki
    Kovalchuk KK Armia
    Cousins Thompson Byron
Weal - in and out with Cousins

    Chiarot Weber
    Scandella Petry
    Mete Fleury

    Price
    Lindgren

think that gives us the best balance on all 4 lines and pairings.

Kovalchuk can't bloody skate anymore. Does anyone on this board ever watch other teams?

look at the highlight video in post #2. Looks like he can skate to me. Being lazy is not the same as being slow. He has speed if he wants to. Watch above for proof ^

That was last year. He was too slow for the slowest team in the league who opted to buy him out at a pretty high price tag. This is a stinky desperate move by Beer boy's lover

Kulak unironically plays the puck better than Marco. The only thing he brings is a good physical presence on a 3rd pairing. Kovy will only help the PP if he has Zero responsibility aside from shooting the puck and if he's with a speedy partner on the point who can make up for his horrible foot speed

I always thought he was a LW even if he is shooting from the right. I would see him with Domi and Suzuki. And place Lehkonen on the right side of KK and Poehling. I dunno how long Cousins will last with tatar and Danault. (Or Lehkonen on RW with Tatar and Danault)

With all the recent injuries, signing Kovalchuk is actually a good idea. Zero risk move with potential positive outcomes. As Thompson mentioned, Kovalchuk is a work horse on and off the ice. Just seeing that training work ethic could have a positive impact on the young guys.

Also as a fan, it's much more entertaining with Kovalchuk in the lineup and watching the game to see if he still has it instead of watching plugs like Barber and Weise play.

I would start him on the top line.

We had Cousins or Weal or whatever on there, ffs.

At this point, I'm ready to try anything.

He’s a well known russophobe. Chased every Russian player out of Montreal.

On topic, Kovalchuk is the best pure shooter on the Habs.

I remember really well the Semin highlights videos when the Habs signed him. Kovalchuk wasn't good enough to play on a team worse than the Habs.
