I completely forgot he came back from the KHL. Seems the only coverage LA gets anymore is Doughty whining in the media.

He had a hot start last year, too. He had a point per game over the first 15 or so games... and then Desjardins replaced Stevens behind the bench and seemingly did everything that he could to misuse him. He's not the elite player that he once was, but he's not as washed up as people might've assumed from last year's totals. If he can stay healthy and not be misused again, he could be a 25g/25a player for a few more years, like Marleau and other formerly elite players who were fanatical about fitness were in their late 30s, IMO.

He looked great today. Getting away from Kempe and (to a lesser extent) Carter may do wonders for him this season, too. He has chemistry with Amadio and is playing with a creative center for the first time since Stevens was coach.

I hope he does well this season, he’s fun to watch.

Don’t look know, but the Kings’ vets are leading the way: Kopitar, Brown, and Kovalchuk.

Kings new head coach needs to use him smartly and Kovy will produce.

Maximise his power play time. Play a strong defensive player on his line to help cover for him defensively, while Kovy cycles at blue line and looks for breakaways. Play him with talented players that can get him the puck.

What you don’t do is limit his minutes to less than 10 per game and play him on 4th line and ask him to play a checking game. It’s not his game and he is too old to change his ways.

He’s not as washed up as many people keep saying, like Osprey said. At the same time, he’s not as good as his numbers show either.

Just let this man play his games without overreacting (positively & negatively).
