Odds are according to USA Sports Casino.

Canada +125
Sweden +350
USA +375
Czech Republic +600
Slovakia +1000
Russia +1200
Finland +1200
Germany +5000

- These odds are for a $100 bet. So if you put $100 on Finland, and they win, you get $1200.

- Odds are set by people betting on them. More people have put more money on Slovakia than Russia, so the the Slovaks have less paying odds. (So no complaining! :madfire: ;))

Probably USA. They have a way to rise to the challenge. I think they have a very solid team.

In a short tournaments like this, there are 5-6 teams that can win.

I would put my $100 on Canada because they are going to win it.Healthy Mario, Broduer in net. Too bad no Pronger or Blake. Still Canada will be the best team. Cha -Ching.

IMO, Canada would be a stupid bet- you could only make 25 bucks if you won. And although they're heavy favourites - they're not going to win every international tournament, so who knows, they maybe due for some bad luck/play? I mean, nobody has lost on defense like Canada (mainly because nobody has that much to lose I guess). We went from having out second pairing being as good/better then any other teams top pairing to being just on par with Sweden IMO.

yup, IMO, if I was a betting man, and had $300 to blow, I'd bet $100 each on Russia, Finland, and the Czechs. the combined chance of one of those three winning, IMO is as safe or safer then betting on any one of the big three.

For those odds I think I would spend $50 on tha candians and $50 on the Finns. Finland has theb the fourth best team IMO. They do not have the scoring depth that other teams do but they have nice balance.

I would handicap the tourney as follows if I was Las Vegas:

Germany 50-1
Russia 20-1
Slovakia 20-1
Czech 15-1
Finland 10-1
USA 5-1
Sweden 5-2
Canada 3-2

That makes Sweden and Finland the best deals.

I'm not a betting man, but the Czech Republic seem to possess the best return=actual performance quotient under this format. If the Czechs get good goaltending and score a bit they have a great chance of winning.

Terrible defence. Won't be able to compete on the North American ice I don't think. But anything can happen in single elimination tournaments. I just think the Finns are better value in that they are built to compete anywhere.

Besides Canada, I think Sweden has a pretty good chance to win it all. All people remember about the Olympics is that shot from center ice, but before that game they were rolling. If Salo pulls himself together (and thats a pretty big "if") I would feel comfortable jumping on their bandwagon.

Or if they just play Telqvist. ;)

I am a betting man :D

And I plan on betting on this tournment, I haven't quite made my final decision on who just.

Betting on Canada is pointless, no return. I may throw some money on Finland, just because of the odds. But the Czechs and Slovaks are tempting, its just their defense is so crappy. The Russians are a wildcard. They have the talent to win this tourny but who the hell knows what they are going to do.

It's going to be a tough choice, but I will probaly end up putting money on a couple of different teams.

I'd put 50 on Finland and 50 on Slovakia. It's a short tournament, any team except Germany can come away with a win in so few games. Czechs just has a coach change because of the unfortunate death of Hlinka and Russia is just a mess of a team. Canada, USA and Sweden have too low odds so there is no point playing them.

USA or the Czechs.

Also keep in mind Canada is 8-3-1 all time vs. the U.S. in Canada Cup and World Cup play., so history says that Canada isnt the best bet.

I dont get it why would winning 2 times more than you lose make you lose your "best bet" status?

If they were paying $1.50 well then the odds of Canada winning v Return on risk would make Canada a good bet.

They are only paying $1.25 for the win. If you bet on 8 comps (to get a good sample size), $100 at 1.25 ($800 total).

Canada must make every semi (its not guaranteed but we will assume it is)
Canada must wins 7 out of every 8 semi-finals (87.5%)
Canada must then win the finals 6 out of the 7 finals (85.7%)

After all that you get back 6 * 1.25 * 100 ($750). You still lose $50 from your $800. (I'm assuming Canada survives the Qtrs, their no guarantee of that so the odds are even worse).

Its a big ask and a very low return. As the 98 Olympics showed, and the precomp games have showed, its not that much of a sure thing that a $1.25 bet is good value in a knockout style comp.

They are only paying $1.25 for the win, which if Canada win 3 out 4 times you break even, 3 out 5 times and you lose money. As the 98 Olympics showed, and the precomp games have showed, its not that much of a sure thing that a $1.25 bet is good value in a knockout style comp.

Ahhhhh. Thanks :handclap: . I dont usually bet with odds and the such only among friends.
