With where we are at, it is important to have good goaltending so that there is something to build on for the young players.
Anderson is signed for one more year and we have two or three good to decent goalie prospects in Gustafsson, Daccord and Hogberg. Trading away Anderson means we likely have to expose them to way more rubber than is healthy for their development.
Unless the return was an absolute homerun or that Anderson's attitude was problematic, I would keep him for one more year. Makes far more sense since the goal is supposed to be to rebuild.
It is an unfortunate way for Anderson to ride into the sunset, it really, truly is. That being said, he wanted the extra year and we gave it to him. Fair is fair.
Well simply you dont put those goalies in the line of fire. Just run with Nilson and Condon next season, keep as many guys in Belleville as you can, it will be better for their development to hopefully be on a good team. Once Stone and Duchene are traded next year is a complete write off anyway, they should do what the leafs did when they tanked for Matthews keep all the young guys down in the AHL and play cast offs who will inflate their stats through increased ice time and deal them off for assets at the deadline. If you guys think this year is tough wait until next season.
I do agree with the notion of keeping strong leadership for the young players, that would entail re-signing players like Stone but thats clearly not happening so they may as well burn it to the ground.
Anderson, Ceci, Stone, Dzingel and Duchene should all be traded if they decide they arent re-signing Mark Stone.
Basically the way I see it is it all hinges on Stone.
