If the Leafs lose to the Habs, do they take the choke king crown from the early 2000's Senators?

Is Toronto going to be the new choke masters?

Matthews is no where close to being worth the 3rd highest salary on the shortest term of anyone in the top ~ 25.

Dubas has to be the worst contract negotiator.

His contract doesn't look great based on his playoff performacnes thus far but he's a center, the best goal scorer in the league and can do little things in playoff games liek win draws and puck battles.

Marner is a small soft winger who doesn't score in the playoffs and doesn't do those small things. His contract is a lot worse.

I don't think they've been in the driver's seat enough to be the greatest choke artists. Wouldn't put the Sens there either. Neither hold a candle to the Thornton/Marleau Sharks.

At time of signing, marner had 94 points and almost ppg in the playoffs.

Matthews had a pace of 88 points and wasn't close to ppg in the playoffs.

Yet matthews took more money and signed for less term.

Neither are good.

I don’t even think it matters what happens in game 7. Montreal is a team that likely doesn’t make the playoffs in pre covid divisions. Not to take away fir their effort, but the fact that the series looks like it dies says a lot more about the leafs core than it does the habs core.

You have a good point here as the Habs have been the beneficiary of Covid 2 straight seasons playoffs wise.

That being said the lose of Tavares has been devastating but the Leafs have still outplayed the Habs but it's the Leafs so everyone just wants to pile on.

a) Toronto took over that crown a while ago b) The early 2000 Sens were far from favorites in the series they lost.

I agree with the first part, Leafs have been horrid in the playoffs.
The second part is debatable, however. I clearly recall a "CHOKING DOGS!" headline in the Ottawa Sun after a series loss to the Leafs, and in at least one of those series we were above them in the standings, and our skill advantage made us favorites too.
We were garbo in the playoffs but eventually had one good run in 2007.

Leafs _might_ have one good run, but...

Does a team have to be good to choke?

Ottawa in the 2000's were President Trophy winners and Stanley Cup finalists...at their best.

Today's Leafs are proof that a giant asterisk needs to be placed beside the 2021 season. They're the bastard child of COVID.

They already are the Choke Masters, what they're trying to do is to get rid of that title.

Those late 00s, early 10s Sharks teams embarrassed their way out of the playoffs too often to not be #1 on that list. The Leafs are quickly shooting their way up there though; all depends what happens in game 7
