Alexander Georgiev in NYC might be available closer to the deadline. He is quite good and dirt cheap. Not a sexy name or anything yet, but definitely NHL starter material. 22 yo and currently backing up The King. We have our arguably best prospect in Russian netminder Igor Shestyorkin (who is likely coming over sometime after this KHL season ends). So Georgiev might be the odd man out...

Looking at the numbers most of the goalies talked about in this thread are putting up and comparing them with Lehtonen's stats from last season, it's crazy that no team has given him a shot yet.

Then again, maybe teams have tried, but he just prefers chilling in Dallas, skating at a local rink and taking his kids to Star's games once in a while. :dunno:

Calgary needs to man up and pay big to acquire a real #1 goalie. Their trend of picking up old scrapes who were once #1 and past their prime has not worked for them. Its honestly wasted some strong contention years with their well built core. The brian elliots, mikes smiths of the nhl need to be absolutely avoided. They need to actively look for another ben bishop level deal.

I think they'll just go with Rittich. By the time Smith retires, Rittich will have become good enough to be a starter.

Rittich looks like a legitimate starter. His game was very good last season minus a couple blowout games that weren’t really on him. The flames need to focus on developing his game. Second round pick Tyler Parsons will hopefully get to back up level ability one day

I’m very interested in making Rittich the starter and having Smith as insurance. Gillies can backup next year and we can groom Parsons to be our future starter.

1- Play Rittich as your number one.
2- Dump Smith
3- Get a plan B now. A relatively young goalie with potential of being a number one who has some pro experience. OP Article talks about Charlie Lindgren (obvious choice) but there are others: Binnington ? Kahkonen ? Korenar ? Rybar ?
