This was back when the Caps were still playing firehouse hockey and were heavily reliant on the PP rather than solid and balanced 5v5 play. They were still weak in goal and on the blue line as well and were the best team in a terrible division. Which turned into a recipe for disaster when the refs swallowed their whistles and a goalie elevated their play. If it wasn't Montreal, they wouldn't have made it past the 2nd round that year either. This TB team is a MUCH better team than the Caps were in that series, both in team structure and in strength of opponents this past year.Caps scores 3 goals in the last 3 games combined. I know Halak was other wordly but people really forget how big of a choke that was because the Caps won last year. I can't imagine many bigger chokes in sports, maybe Yankees in 2004, but even then the Red Sox were an equal team to them. Habs literally had 39 wins, 88 points
