What would Canadas team be composed of. I assume that European leagues would release their players if chosen, as well as the NCAA. Would AHL teams let their players go?

I guess the question of AHL teams releasing players would be crucial. If they did, we could have guys like Brett Maclean, Dustin Jeffery, Jonathan Cheechoo, Nigel Dawes, Nazem Kadri, Jeff Finger, Wade Redden, Sheldon Sourey who are near NHL calibre, if not already.

Would accomplished junior players like Schenn, Kassian, Gudbranson, Schwartz be considered.

What about Canadians in the KHL, Elisterien, SM Liiga?

I have not looked at any details on NHL in Sochi but if NHL players cant attend, I dont see why players with NHL contracts but are in minors would be allowed to go. Only those with AHL contracts would be permitted to play, I could be wrong on this matter though.

Anyways, Canada would just pull from the various top European leagues. If they wanted to send juniors dont see why not but in my opinion, to send junior players to go up against grown men who play pro hockey on the Olympic stage probably wouldnt go so well. (Unless you mean like 1-2 players to be role players with limited ice time)

What about Canadians in KHL, SEL or SM-Liiga, are you asking who would be candidates from these leagues to play for Canada or if these league would release players?

No disrespect to Finger but who would want him on Team Canada...or Team USA, as he's American.

    Good point.

Either way, a Canadian team without AHL or NHL talent would suck. There arent enough quality players in Europe, so Im guessing we would have a lot of older NCAA guys with some Spengler Cup players, and maybe a guy like Brayden Schenn, and Gudbranson

Sochi without NHLers would be faboulous. For the KHL. Which european players have NHL contracts that end before 2014?

Most of the top Canadians in Europe were AHL all-stars or NHLers just one or two years ago, why would current AHLers be any better?
