If MLB teams had captains and alternate captains like the NHL

In hockey some teams have up to 4 alternate so I'd say cap it there for baseball as there is a larger roster to choose from.

For the Blue Jays I would say it goes like this...

Jose Bautista - Captain
Josh Donaldson - Alternate
Russell Martin - Alternate
R.A. Dickey - Alternate
Mark Buehrle - Alternate

That's OFFICER Brian McCann to you, son. Learn how to respect the game and play it the right way before addressing him. And none of this Latino celebration crap.

After disappointing stints with the Blues, Sabres and Wild I just don't think it's a good idea to have him in that kind of role.

I agree. If he can't be the scorer he was drafted to be, then there's no way he can hit at an MLB level.

A's would probably just have rotating alternates because the captain would get traded away too often

Didn't Sammy Sosa use to have a "C" on the sleeve of his jersey?
It's been done.
