hypothetically..... Would the leafs be a better team with Nylander or Pesce?

Which player do you think makes Toronto a better team?

This is a purely hypothetical situation about if the leafs traded Nylander for Brett Pesce
I am not trying to debate the particulars of a trade and who adds what, and who's worth more.

I just wanted to float the question to everyone on if they:
A) Would be a better team if they kept Nylander
B) Would be a better team if they had Pesce and didn't have Nylander

A more stacked offense vs better rounded Defense core

You got this idea from the trade boards didn't you.

Clearly the Leaves have no issues with Nylander out of the lineup. Pesce might help their porous defense though.

Actually TSN insider trading, about 5-6 days ago I think.
Lebrun said Pesce was the one they would target. I have no idea if it is true, he could be BS'ing or floating a player he likes.

Lebrun is a solid dude but I'm sure he floats stuff like everyone else, maybe the guy on trade boards got it from TSN IT as well.

When you factor in the $$ Nylander is going to have to be paid long term to be a Leaf(arounnd 7-8 Mil +) and consider the fact that Pesce is locked up around 4M AAV for the next 6 years, I think Pesce would be the guy I am taking for Toronto. Not to mention the team need of another top pairing defender and already being ridiculously stacked on offense.

But in a vacuum, I'd probably take Nylander as he has potential to be a higher impact player if he isn't already.

I would say Pesce based on his contract, and Toronto's positional need. They have enough at forward, but their d leaves something to be desired. Would also making Gardiner walking much easier, and I don't really think they should (or could) pay him anyways.

Nylander is a better player. Pesce is a very good top-pairing defensman though on an amazing contract.

I still take Willy easily.

The fact that the majority of the board would like Toronto to trade Nylander for Pesce should tell you who they're actually better with.

Non-Leaf fans don't want Toronto making good decisions.

Nylander is a better forward than Pesce is a defender. Pesce may be a better fit just because of team needs, but people overestimate how much Toronto needs defense, it's not as bad as people say. I'd take Nylander over Pesce any day of the week.

Well it really depends on context. Obviously Nylander is the better option as a forward, I think their scoring stats make that clear enough. But since a defenseman is what the Leafs need, I think Pesce would be the much better option. Not only does he have far more experience as a defenseman, but I think Nylander would be very uncomfortable having to skate backward all the time. So if it's a defenseman that is called for, I take Pesce 10/10 times.

Or we know this is a trade board and the results of the poll have 0 effect on the outcome of reality and were just answering truthfully? I know it's hard for some Leaf fans to not think their player is always the better choice.

Pesce is a very underrated D. Yes Nylander is a slightly better player, but wow does the Leafs D ever need help. Would definitely help them in the long wrong.

and it is apparently extremely difficult for posters (like yourself) to come to terms that the Leafs player is sometimes the better choice.
