So, here's a game to keep us all entertained for the next little while hopefully while the NHL is on hiatus. Here's the premise: you are the GM of a new expansion team whose season starts in October. However, due to a clerical error, all protection lists are void, and the salary cap does not apply to you. You bribe Bettman to make sure he doesn't do anything about it.
Build yourself the best team you can on paper to go 98-0 in your inaugural season.
Rules:
1 - You can still only have one player per team. So you can't have McDavid and Draisaitl, you can't have Kucherov and Hedman, you can't have MacKinnon and Makar.
2 - Assume you're going to have to waive some players to get to your 23 man roster. So if there's no one you want from a certain team, you can skip that team and just present your final roster. Or not, if you want to show your work for all 31 teams, go for it.
3 - The season starts next year, so if you select Joe Thornton, you're getting Joe Thornton today, not Joe Thornton from ten years ago.
4 - Try your best to keep your positions making some sense. Don't make obvious centers into wingers if you can help it. If someone plays C/W hybrid, you can slide then to wing, but don't cheat and throw Barkov onto the wing when he's clearly a natural C. Let's say left vs. right winger doesn't matter so much, lots of guys play on their off sides anyway.
Who can build the best team, and why is yours better than everyone else's?
And GO!
