Well, yes, of course that could happen and maybe the Canes set a record for fewest goals scored in a year. You're kind of taking a best case scenario or a worst case scenario approach with nothing in between, which imo, is probably the most likely to actually happen.

My feeling has always been that Aho - TT is gold and they play just incredibly well together. I don't think they should need a player of Svechnikov's caliber to be elite. Do they need someone better than Nino? Maybe, but I do think 'Good Nino' is absolutely an appropriate linemate for them. Now whether or not we see 'Good Nino' this year is TBD.

I also feel like Svech is a line driver who makes things happen and Aho and TT are already do that. I think Necas can be that guy eventually but he's not there yet and I think Trocheck has some of those abilities too but not at the same level and as a two way center he's dealing with a bit more stuff as well. I think that eventhough Svech is young, he's showed a lot of maturity in his game this past year and obviously with the big step that he took, Necas could learn a ton from being on a line with him. They're both big bodies who can skate and control the play. Maybe Necas can absorb that just by watching Svech, I don't know.

My preference would be to have two dangerous scoring lines with Aho, TT, and Svech maybe scoring 10 points less than their top tier potential but the other guys (Tro, Nino, Necas) playing near the top of their limits and having everyone produce with a more even and balanced attack. But, I guess if I have to choose SAT line being full blown beast mode and everyone else being whatever vs. Nobody playing well then I'll take your scenario I just think there's a lot of middle ground in there too.

No, I agree that it'll be something in between and I do think it could be kind of close either way we do it. I just think it's safer and a better idea to roll SAT and know that 100% you're going to have 1 elite scoring line. I think there's a chance that if we do split them up we wind up with the top line being still very good but not elite and then the 2nd line even with Svech still isn't a very dangerous scoring line. In theory it should be but if he doesn't develop chemistry with Tro/Necas I could see that line being very disappointing. SAT line just eliminates that worst case scenario from the possibilities. The next worst case scenario, like you've said, is if the top line has some stinkers and the bottom 9 can't pick up the slack, but I just see that as still being better over the course of a season than splitting up the top line and having no line that we can 100% count on in most games.

Honestly, no matter how we do the lines, we're probably somewhat screwed if Necas, Trocheck and Nino don't take steps forward from last year and we're in good shape if they do.

(or it could be Dzingel, Foegele, etc. I have mainly been focusing on Nino as that 6th forward because I think he is ideally the best fit in the top 6 if he can find his game again, but it very well could be one of those two emerging)

Fast could create chemistry with Aho and TT, almost guarantee. It would hugely help making other lines work. Only Trocheck is and will always be dissapointment I am afraid.

Hey guys, I was just reminiscing about Fast and couldn't find a player discussion thread, apologies if one exists but I guess this thread will do. How have you guys liked him so far?

He's getting better and fitting in better. I think new team and time on the covid list (I think I remember that correctly) had him start slow.

I think he's a perfect 3/4 liner with the ability to play anywhere higher short term. He even has some value on the PP where he's played some after moving Dzingel.

Yup. Has played hard and I’d say the last 2-3 games he’s looked like more of a difference maker on the ice. Forming chemistry with line mates and being very hard to play against. I complaints over here really, at least not at what he signed for. We’re ge to be making $500-750k more maybe there would be gripes about production but he’s been a good soldier and has played up and down the lineup where Rod has asked. Seems like a good teammate for sure

He's had the hurdle of finding his role on a new team interrupted by COVID, which I think we're all learning in real time has a recovery that doesn't keep you out of the lineup, but reduces your effectiveness. You might even say he's been half-Fast. I think these next 5 games we will finally be seeing what we've got in him.

That's literally what I was coming here to do, and then thought "Oh! I wonder how Fast is doing too. I'll click that thread first." Glad that Fast is settling in. Such a phenomenal glue guy.
Skjei has mostly been good/decent as he’s been playing a simple game and not getting cute. Tonight though he had poor play on the GWG as others stated.

Fast is the kind of guy coaches absolutely love. Always gives you 100%, defensively responsible, seems to always make the smart play.
I know McLovin was a fan fave, but Fast is head and shoulders the better player.

I think of Fast and Kotkaniemi as a combo replacement for McGinn. Foegele was replaced by Lorentz.

I wouldn’t say those moves made us better, but they haven’t hurt us at all. A little less offensive skill, but better depth.

Not sure I agree with that statement in totality. Fast has been about equivalent to Foegele throughout their careers. Kotkaniemi has more offensive skill than McGinn, even if it hasn't resulted in points so far in this short season.
