Breaking news out of Carolina today suggests that the Canes have made two separate trades this afternoon. Anton Babchuk was seen saying his good-byes at the airport this afternoon as the club heads to Atlanta for their next game. Babchuk meanwhile was hopping on a plane to Nashville where the Oilers are in town to face the Predators. It's known that GM Lemoine has been in trade talks with both the Oilers and Predators the past couple days so it's not known yet exactly which club Babchuk is heading to.

There is no word yet on what the Canes are getting back for Anton or even what at all the 2nd deal is. We have to assume that their is a going to be a d man coming back in one of the deals. The club has been looking for another blue liner since the season started. More to come when we find out exactly what the two deals are.

The two trades today have been made official. The first trade was confirmed by sources in Vancouver. The hurricanes acquired big physical Matt Greene for prospect Tom wandell and a 2nd round pick in 2011. Greene is expected to play on the 2nd unit and see lots of time on the pk.

Confirmed by sources from inside the canes front office is that Anton Babchuk was sent to Nashville along with a 7th round pick. In return Carlo Colaiacovo and 5th round pick are coming to Carolina. It is speculated that Anton wasnt happy with his role on the club and requested a trade. Carlo will likely play on the 3rd pair and see some time on the pp.

Rumors continue to swirl around the Carolina Hurricanes. Today their is wide spread speculation that the Hurricanes have traded away Alex Steen. With the team playing excellent hockey it seems strange to see this flurry of activity. If Steen has in fact been traded it will be interesting to see the return as the only reason to move Steen would be for cap reasons. his cap hit is 3 million for the next 4 years and the Hurricanes are losing money despite having one of the lowest payrolls in the league.

With the announcement of Parise for JVR trade...it seems that this trade has been left out.

The rumored Alex Steen deal has been made official. Steen will be heading to the Los Angeles Kings along with prospect forwards Chris Vande Velde and Raymond Sawada. In return the Hurricanes have received Jussi Jokinen.

"We like Jussi's versatility. He has the ability to play anywhere up front. Overall we think he's a better fit for our organization." commented GM Lemoine.

It's not known yet who Jokinen be playing with up front or even where. It's almost certain however he will see top six minutes. As far as the two prospects go that were traded to the Kings, both project as grinding type forwards. Neither is going to take the HFNHL by storm, however they are both safe bets to one day be depth forwards in the league.

Bugger me. I've made recent pitches for both key players.
