Everyone thought he would become a legit 30 goal scorer back then, what happened? Skating issues, IQ?

I see Matt Duchene type player with Alex Galchenyuk-like skating stride.

interesting video as I don't know too much about him, other then the hype after he killed it in the dub at 17 and 18 years old. (177 pts in 130 games) And things seemed to be going great for him in his 2nd pro season at age 21. He put up a .87 ppg which would have been 66 pts had he been able to keep that pace up. He led that team in goals and tied for 2nd in points despite playing only 45 games. Then he gets traded at the end of Feb that year and still does well putting up a .71 ppg in just 17 games as he appeared in 7 NHL games with the Flames putting up 3 pts.

At 22 he spends most of his 3rd pro season in the AHL and puts up a solid .67 ppg which over 76 games would be 51 pts, not bad at all. He gets called up for another 7 games with the Flames but gets just 1 pt, in his 14 games with the Flames he gets just over 13 minutes of ice time and he does record 17 shots but just 2 goals and 4 pts. But this past season he has his worst yet, spending all year in the AHL and putting up a .51 ppg. which would have been just 39 pts as the pacific plays only 68 games and the rest of the AHL play 76 games in case anyone wasn't aware.

So what caused his production to go from .87 to .71 to .67 to .51 from his 2nd pro season to being in the Flames organization. Stockton was a playoff team 2 years ago, but this past season they missed.

Hopefully he can use this as a chance to get back on track. He can talk to his former Hat teammate Markus Eisenschmid about playing in Laval and he'll be joined by his former Utica teammate Alex Grenier in Laval.

Let's hope this kid, will finally realize he is on his last legs, and work to put it all together...it would be nice to see that happen.

Long shot, but we can hope...hope is all we have these days, with the clown still in charge...

He's a project , he sounds motivated to prove detractors wrong but many others before him sounded equally motivated and never made the show. If he works out could be another happy accident for MB...

2 teams gave up on him already. Rarely a good sign as it rules out the obvious "the coach or the management did not like him just because". Vancouver traded him for a 23 years old 2nd round pick who was struggling to make the NHL and who project to have a lackluster bottom 6 career. If Shinkaruk is that good it means we got less for Eller than Calgary got for Grandlund which doesn't make any sense. No way Vancouver trades him for Grandlund if they value him as a good prospect drafted in the first round.

Yeah but you don't evaluate trades based on "it could happen". Rychel is the same age as Shinkaruk and so far had an equivalent career in all the levels he played. It could happen for him too. It's like saying buying 100$ of 649 tickets a week is a good move because you can win. The chance for Shinkaruk to became more than an average bottom 6 guy are very slim and the same as Rychel. It's probably around 1% give or take. It really should be considered an AHL move.

The reason I like this move is because imo Shinkaruk has the higher ceiling. Rychel's skating limits him and Shinkaruk's game is more suited to the new NHL. He's relatively fast, Rychel is relatively slow.
