Kadri is a grown man, and Babcock will still use him for matchups. Kadri thrives on the matchup game. His main objective is to play a good 200 foot game which in turn helps his offence.

I’m not as sold on his defensive game as being something he thrives on. At least not in the playoffs.

Plekanec did a much better job in that Boston series. So much so that even some of his biggest supporters, agreed that Plekanec was our best chance to shut the Bs down.

I do think this needs to be an area he can work on as he gets closer to 30.

To his credit, he’s never really bitched (as far as I can remember) about how Babcock used him. I don’t see him being a distraction, at least not for ice time or usage reasons.

Get over it.kadri is far better why you think He took his job is laughable at best. Nylander was playing horrible and Babs was hoping to get him going by playing him with Kadri and last thing. Kadri can kill penalties and may get some more ice time doing so as we have lots of time for him to recover before his next shift.

I'm guessing by half way through the season the narrative will be that he gets too much ice time. Babs loved him and doesn't have uncle Leo anymore. Kadri will be a close 3rd in ice time amongst forwards.
who of Mathews-Tavaras-Hyman does he jump over for 3rd most mins?

What’s laughable is dismissing fact.

Did you miss the playoffs when Plekanec played with Marner and Marleau and Kadri played with AJ and winger of choice?

How can you conclude Kadri can kill penalties when he’s never been given that chance at the NHL level?

Re: OP’s question, on how Dubas will keep Kadri happy, it’s a non-issue.

Presumably the tone was intended as “Kadri will be getting 3rd line C minutes so how will he stay happy getting less usage?”

See, anyone who is wondering this has not been paying attention.

Leo Komarov:
Last season uncle Leo was a lightning rod for criticism because Babcock was giving him 20+ mins a night and Matthews was not getting the same treatment.

Why?

Because Babcock believes in roles. Skill players are there to score goals. Then you have your defensive specialists that are there to shut down the opposition and hold the lead.

Last season, because we had such a high-powered offensive group, we had the lead a lot, usually quite early on. That meant a decrease in minutes for Matthews, Nylander, Bozak, and JVR, and increased minutes for the Kadri line and 4th line.

This year, we won’t have a 4th line C that Babcock is particularly familiar with. But Kadri has proven to be very reliable.

So undoubtedly rolling out Tavares and Matthews’ lines will result in some quick scoring, so many games will quickly turn over to Kadri and the 4th line (if they prove to be defensively reliable).

The key here is that Matthews and Tavares are both very defensively responsible, so they won’t be stuck on the shelf, but Babcock will want to protect his star players from unnecessary wear-and-tear.

Partly at the recommendation of the sports science team, as that factors in as well.

All told, the real “concern” should be Matthews and Tavares not getting 20+ mins a night like people probably expect.

I can conclude this by understand hockey and looking at him with out the thick hate glasses you wear regarding Kadri.

The Marner line was doing fine in the playoffs and Nylander was sucking butt. Easy decision was when Kadri came back after suspension was to attempt to get another line going, hence the Kadri and Nylander being placed together. You attempt at saying that Plekanec is better than Kadri removes all doubt as to you assessing anything to do with Kadri.

Care to put up your profile as to who gets more points Kadri or Plekanec this year?

PS Nylander put up 3 points in the last two games of the playoffs after Kadri returned.

In order to keep Kadri happy, Dubas will just have to keep putting money into Kadri’s bank account......

Of course Kadri gets more points than Plekanec. Who said that was even a question?

Most of your Schtick is just the same old same old.

I suspect you will be one of the whiners through the year. Can’t wait.

Cheers. Nothing more to discuss.

Another weird thread from you....

Like holy crap, I think he's just here to stir stuff up.

A collection of some of his worst from the last month
  • "How does Dubas keep Kadri happy next season?"
  • "The fans have spoken, and they don't seem to like Jake Gardiner."
  • "Is Kasperi Kapanen a 4th-liner on the Leafs and every other NHL team?"
  • "Let's talk about Mason Marchment as much as possible ASAP"
Just bad take after bad take. And then he sprinkles in a few Hockeybuzz articles and trade proposals on the main boards? Like c'mon, man. Give it a rest.

you poor guy. back to back 30 goal years from Kadri must’ve hurt you real bad inside. And he’s still not traded!

Imo Plek’s playoff performance is getting more than a tad overstated here. He had a few really good shifts, that’s it.

Ain't this about the dumbest question ever. Think Kadri will be very happy being on a better team. With Bozak and JVR and with addition of Tavares, Kadri will still see plenty of PP time just like the past two years.

I wonder if creator of this post "How will Dubas keep Kadri happy?" has been watching the Leafs play recently.

And what does Dubas have to do with anything? Is Dubas setting the lines?
