I must have missed the rule where ice time is limited by rules to fans line combos.

Great idea walshy7. Back when i played we had no 4th line. And 4-5 defence with 5th guy sitting most. Sh*t You cant get enough ice time with 6 or 7 d. but modern game has changed.

Pro hockey is all about your next contract. Ask anyone who has played. Kadri needs his ice so his stats are good and he can get his money too. He is happy for JT but he has to protect his interests too. It is not a conflict it is life as a pro player.

Kadri is a grown man, and Babcock will still use him for matchups. Kadri thrives on the matchup game. His main objective is to play a good 200 foot game which in turn helps his offence.

it has nothing to do with spoiled children. you only have a few years to make your money. most of us never went to school. we are from school of hard knox. many nights i had to beat someone up on ice to stay in game especially late in hockey career. it is a very very tough life. not at all what you think.

Excuse me, but how am I supposed to spin this negatively? :sarcasm:

He's already been the shutdown guy. If anything, isn't it possible that he sees more favourable matchups? You've got to think the opposition would be putting their top line out against one of AM or JT's lines anyway.

Kadri has already signed his big contract. He's not going to "lose his stats". I'm pretty sure he scored most of his goals on the PP, so if he continues getting similar PP time, on a unit with more threats, he should be able to put up good numbers.

He's going to be on the first line PP.

After a shift where neither Tavares or Matthews played, like after a PP2, you can throw Kadri out on LW with Matthews and Nylander. Babcock did that quite a bit last year. There are many creative ways to get Kadri up to 18ish minutes.
I wonder if you may see Gardiner + Rielly after a PK.

Part of the problem last year was rielly not be able to increase his ice time at even strength because his partner logged more PK time than anyone in the league.

20 mins Matthews line
20 mins JT line
20 mins Kadri line

save cap no 4th line. Revolutionize the game

Could have 9 defenders.

I actually think going with 8 defenders and 10 forwards isn't the craziest thing in the world given our forwards.

I wonder if Babcock would seriously consider going with 11 forwards and 7 D? It certainly solves a lot of problems. Allows our 3 centers to get enough ice time and we can have a PK specialist (maybe Marincin?) as our 7th defender.

Kadri is no longer the #2 center. He is now the #3 center. It looks wonderful for coaches and fans, but what about Kadri? He is a back to back 30 goal scorer. How is he going to achieve that playing 13 min. a night? He doesn't kill penalties, and I would imagine he might play the 2nd PP. The question I suppose is: does Kadri like winning more than his lightened responsibility? Will he be unhappy doing less?

Kadri will be on the 1st PP. Matthews and Nylander will be on the 2nd PP.
Kadri will gets lots of ice-time as the shutdown C, going head to head against the opposing line that gets the most ice-time - especially at home.

It is not Kadri's happiness you should be worried about.

I'm guessing by half way through the season the narrative will be that he gets too much ice time. Babs loved him and doesn't have uncle Leo anymore. Kadri will be a close 3rd in ice time amongst forwards.

Why would there be a narrative like that? I don't mind when actually good players, unlike Komarov, get lots of ice time.

I think Kadri will react better than a couple of his fans with reduced usage.

When he came back in the playoffs and lost his job to Plekanec, he never said a word.

When he got benched in the 3rd and his linemates played, he never said a word.

I think he genuinely wants to win. If that means playing reduced minutes and in “sheltered” situations, I think he will be cool with it.

A couple of his fans though...

The passive-aggressiveness is really off the charts with this post.

He's not. Kadri is going to be miserable and ask for a trade by December, and he's only going to have 6 points by then so he'll have blown his value, and we'll only get a 2nd round pick for him.

Poor us!!! :(

Jozay has this correct. Naz has not been left in the dark on this matter. It is a total non issue UNLESS Babs reneges. But why would he? He knows the ramifications of a bad locker room. It is one of the benefits of having a stacked centre core. Everything was agreed between JT, AM and Naz before the signing. But i would not want to be 4th line centre on this team with 3 competitive guys all looking for 20 minutes a night.

but it's babs, right?
