From our cup run we have lost three top six forwards (Hoffman/Brassard/MacArthur/Turris) and two top four defenceman (Phaneuf/Methot)

We gained Duchene and Chabot but that’s not enough for EK to want to stay IMO. We’ve become a much worse team.
I Disagree,

Duchene is our best forward, better than turris, macarthur (was) , brassard and hoffman. Stone is just as good and he is here in his prime. Arguably Turris is passed his prime and Dorion jumped on it.

Brassard was a heck of a player but we got a potential franchise goalie in gustavsson AND the 22nd pick in this year's deep draft.... feelin better?

Macarthur doesn't play at all anymore so can't really get too caught up in that one. Hoffman had to go for cents on the dollar because of his own behaviour and/or his wifes. Which is actually a good move in order to keep Karlsson, they were at odds for some reason.:sarcasm:

Methot was unfortunate but Phaneuf is not a top four defenceman, and we didn't lose him, we traded him away and took on a bad contract in order to do it.

From an actual organisational perspective we have some of the best prospects coming up than we ever have. Chabot is starting to turn a corner, White, Brown, Batherson, formenton, chlapik, even guys like nurmi and wolanin are looking to pan out.

There is a bright close future to those who pay attention. Duchene himself speaks of his own excitement about the players he will get to play with soon and already has had a chance to.

What's the feeling toward all of this madness lately if Erik Karlsson signs for 8 years? Does it mend all wounds? A future of Karlsson, Chabot, Stone,Duchene,White,Batherson,Zadina, Brown,Gustavsson,Formenton could be a very bright future ahead.

It's only bright with Melnyk out of the picture. Otherwise, the symptoms will be cured but the disease will rage on and we'll continue to be penny-pinchers, selling off our players and picks to save a buck. The problems in this team run so much deeper than the Karlsson situation.

If we can find a way to keep the King, all these kids will be on entry level contracts. We will have some guys around to help us get to the floor like Ryan and Boedker but by the time we have to spend money to keeps all these kids I truly believe he will be gone. So under new ownership we will have the opportunity to sign these kids and hopefully bring in some assests or Free agent signings.

Even if the team re-signs EK, Duchene and Stone, the problem will not be solved.

This market is done with Eugene.

Yes, but that's the key and I'm glad we agree – it's Melnyk being out of the picture that will give us hope, not just this crop of up-and-comers.

It makes it a lot better knowing we have one of the best players in the world. Karlsson will outlast Euge.

But I’m actually ok with a trade. As long as the return is right. Meaning excellent and includes a top dman
