For discussion purposes, here are our current player Powerplay stats.

In order from most to least productive;

Eller: 5:57 minutes per point, 5:57 minutes, 1 points
Sekac: 6:20 minutes per point, 12.75 minutes, 2 points
Beaulieu: 9:12 minutes per point, 9:12 minutes, 1 points
Plekanec: 14:20 minutes per point: 57.25 minutes, 4 points.
Galchenyuk: 14:30 minutes per point: 58 minutes, 4 points.
Markov: 15 minutes per point. 90 minutes, 6 points.
Desharnais: 17:10 minutes per point. 68.5 minutes, 4 points.
Parenteau: 21 minutes per point, 63.3 minutes, 3 points.
Pacioretty: 24:10 minutes per point, 72.5 minutes, 3 points.
Gallagher: 31 minutes per point, 62 minutes, 2 points
Subban: 33:25 minutes per point, 100 minutes, 3 points.
Andrighetto: infinity minutes per point, 3:38 minutes, 0 points
Gonchar: infinity minutes per point, 30:28 minutes, 0 points
Gilbert: infinity minutes per point, 31:12 minutes, 0 points

Not adding anyone else with 0 points as they average under 20 seconds per game.

Just for fun;
The Montreal Canadiens: 33 Powerplay points.
Nick Foligno, Brock Nelson, and Radim Vrbata: 34 Powerplay points

Be. creative.

The players are never moving when they're in control of the puck in the offensive zone, they're all waiting at their respective spot, most of the time to pass the puck at the blue line for a shot. Too damn predictable.

Reorganize PP around Galchenyuk and our forwards. Make the point the ''B'' option. Put a big body in front, and I mean in front, not on the side. Do more than just alternate Markov-PK to set up their one timer. A lot more movement. Less useless cycling around the boards.

Change it up. It's the same as the Pens' powerplay used to be -- no movement. The players need to move around and find openings instead of the same 1-3-1 set up.

Desharnais is far from the biggest problem with the PP, especially when you list guys like Gallagher and Parenteau, who are producing awfully.

With the changes brought to the lines, I thought the PP looked pretty good against Vancouver.
The whole team looked good. I don't really expect us to look that good on the PP or defensively every night.

Our PP needs work.

I don't like how the coaching staff handles the PP by putting the exact same even strength lines in there. Last game, left handed shot on the LW for a 5 on 3. Galchenyuk missed two one timer opportunites from Pacioretty because he's a leftie. Subban and Markov trying to stretch the zone by playing closer to the blue line indicates that they want to play down low, but your set up down low doesn't favour a cross crease one timer except for Pacioretty. Easy to defend.

5 shooting options
At least 1 forward with size to screen the shot from the points.

Players need to be taking more risk and move a lot more in order to open up passing lanes.

Our powerplay against Vancouver was awesome to see. A lot of quick passes to make the box move, that's what we need.

Skate and keep the puck moving. A good powerplay makes the penalty killing unit box move until they find an open man. Our PP only shifts from up top. Make the forwards available for support down low and it'll open things up (like the Plekanec- Galchenyuk - Subban tic tac toe goal from earlier in the season.)

So during MT's years coaching the Pens they also had lousy PP's while he was coaching there too?

For those of you who mentionned dd, he was on the 3rd pp unit today at practice, the pp units were the same as the 5 on 5 lines.

Next stop, trade DD? I don't see how he fits in with the team anymore.

Perhaps if we had 3 offensive lines that are given the same minutes, he could have a place on the team.. but Therrien doesn't sail this ship like Martin did.

And contrary to what some posters here think, that's a great thing.
