How pre-pause bets will be handled?

Look a lot like the NHL will move on with the 24 teams playoff which alter A LOT the previous odds that were set for gambling

What will happen to people which bet, say in February, that the Hawks or the Habs would make the playoff? At times their chance to reach it were very bad - now they would make it because of strict rules change. Would the gambling sites consider those bets off, because of that? Would they honor the bet? How will it work? It will be a mess, lot of complaining will happen, I can say a customer say I bet the Hawks would make the playoff and they did, you owe me the money.

If I were a bookmaker (which I'm not, so maybe my answer should be taken with a grain of salt), in the hypothetical scenario of a bet made about whether a team makes the playoffs or not, I'd obviously have to re-define "the playoffs" for the purposes of a the original bet. Since the 24-team tournament is what's approved, I would revise the definition that the play-in series winners fulfill the criterion of the original bet, whereas the play-in series losers do not.

Most importantly, since this is such an unprecedented situation, I would also reach out to anyone who made such a bet with me and ask them if they are okay with keeping their wager under the revised terms or not. If they're not, I'd refund their bet with no further questions asked.

Nevada sportsbooks to refund some NHL regular-season bets

Las Vegas sportsbooks are refunding bets based on (team game) points. Other bets may be in limbo.

MGM Resorts also refunded bets on division winners. But other books, including Caesars Entertainment and William Hill, planned on waiting to grade division wagers until the NHL officially named its division champions.

“We’re trying to get the full official statement from the NHL on division winners. The NHL has to recognize them as the division champions,” William Hill sportsbook director Nick Bogdanovich said. “They didn’t address the division champions, specifically.”
...
“Given the way the playoffs are set up, my gut feeling is that the league is not going to ‘crown’ division champs this year,” he said in an email. “Likely all refunded. This is just my opinion.”[/quote[

Playoffs spots are decided by the play in.
