Normally a hand full every year. By handful I mean 5-10.

Quite often I think, Pens have drafted Luca Caputi, Dustin Jeffrey and Nick Petersen who were all skipped over in their first draft eligible year. David Perron and Viktor Tikhnov were two recent first round picks who didn't get picked in their first draft eligible year.

I think Joonas Rask was drafted the 3rd time he was eligible.

Mikko Koskinen was first pick of second round in 2009. He was 4th time eligible.

But Islanders drafted him so it doesn't count? : sarcasm :

What's the exact cutoff date?

Benoit Pouliot is born on Sept. 29. 1986.

He was either one of the oldest 1st year player available, or a 2nd year player.

It's worth mentionning that prior to his "draft year", he played only 4 OHL games.

A lot more than this.

EDIT: Just a quick look at the 2010 draft, I get 35. That includes players also eligible in their 3rd and 4th years.

Holy ****. Really? Wow. That is waaay more than I expected. Was that just a high number that year?

Yeah- it happens more than we think- usually in later rounds- sometimes in the 1st, 2nd (Tiks, Perron, Trevor Lewis)

Buffalo does it's usual 7th rounder overager (Riley Boychuk (10), Max Legault (09), Mancari, Hunter (04), Dennis, Generous (05) heck we drafted Nathan Paetsch (03) in the 7th when he didn't get signed the 1st time (Caps 2nd rounder),

Nikolai Kulemin and Carl Gunnarsson are both good players that the Leafs drafted in 2006. They were both passed over the first time.
