Wait, what? This image has to be out of date. It depicts the stadium in its current location. I was under the impression is was being moved way out in the middle of nowhere near the U of M. Is that not happening anymore?

(I have absolutely no interest in football, so I haven't really been following the Bombers stadium issue too closely.)

correct, new stadium on univeristy of Manitoba campus.

Actually all of those renderings are out of date. Here's the latest:

You do realize that it isn't -30C every single day in January, right? You are aware that it can get warm in January, even above 0C sometimes, right?

Just making sure..................................

I don't have the will nor the desire to go through all the weather records for January, but suffice it to say, it can get above 0C in January in Winnipeg. I've played outdoor hockey in January in Winnipeg when it was about 5C, and the rinks were damn slushy.

I love how defensive some of you guys get. :biglaugh:

I spent the first 18 years of my life in Winnipeg and I cannot remember a single time in January where I would've looked forward to sitting in an outdoor venue for three hours at a time. If it ever got above 0C in January in the history of the city chances are it was for a few hours and people were out playing beach volleyball.

I would be very suprised if the NHL scheduled a game here in the middle of January but the new stadium might just be enough to entice them.

It always puts a smile on my face when we can prove people like you wrong :)

And THANK YOU WaveRaven for taking the time to go through the stats to prove what some of us have been saying all along.

Much appreciated!

Do not say never because this past year they played an outdoor game in -30C and colder temps already.

It was freezing in Edmonton for the original Heritage Classic and last year's wasn't much better as I recall. Frozen beers! Crazy Canadians will go regardless of the temps just to be a part of it. I, personally, would rather take in the ambiance from an HD TV, but that's just me.

I'd rather go and be part of the event. The actual game would almost be secondary.

Why don't we just say this. Yes it CAN get above 0 degrees in Winnipeg in January, but it has happened 2 times between 2000-2011, or 0.006% of the time. Even if it has happened a couple of other times, just at a lower temperature than the table you've posted, it's less than 1%, or basically statistically insignificant.

My only point that I was making was that is does happen ever few years or so. We had a few come on here saying it "NEVER EVER EVER HAPPENS...........EVER!" when that is just plain wrong, no matter the frequency of occurence. One person so much as came on here to mock us for saying that those others were wrong. Now that they have all been proven wrong, we can move on from this crap and get back to the subject at hand.....................and I for one can't wait for this to happen! :yo:

You obviously took my "NEVER" too seriously. Never as in, it will probably only happen at handful of times in your lifetime and not for the whole day either. When it's not, it's still cold as ****.

Bottom line is that it is generally cold in the winter in Winnipeg, but so is Edmonton, Calgary, Regina and Saskatoon. All these cities experience occasional warm-ups in the wintertime (Calgary moreso with the Chinooks). But really, it's Canada. What do you expect? It's life; deal with it.

Anyways, as I said before, let's move beyond this crap and get back to the discussion at hand.
