Do you think it would be until plans for having an outdoor game in Winnipeg start to occur?
2013 year after the new stadium opens
makes most sense to me
Planning? Probably already discussed with Bettman.
Actually "you will be hosting" planning? Sometime around new stadium opening.
Canucks-Jets 2013 heritage classic... I like it!
^^^ haha bring back 1992! Or how bout a rematch of the '90 Oilers n Jets
I vote for this year
Use the stadium, then all the hockey fans that missed out on tickets would get to go to a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When our new Stadium is built, that or Canwest Stadium, but the new Stadium is bigger so I'd go for that.
Winnipeg vs Phoenix maybe since they used to play there and it shows the only chance the Yotes can do a Winter Classic
but it will be two canadian teams
Never gonna happen. No one wants to play outdoors in Winnipeg in January.
Probably be in 6 years to get all high end tickets renewals as little candy to stay as season ticket holders another 5 years. That would be perfect timing for TN.
New football stadium is mostly shielded by clear panels by look of their design so a nice day in late February would certainly make it doable.
Doesn't have to be January.
So Edmonton is balmy in comparison?
You do realize that it isn't -30C every single day in January, right? You are aware that it can get warm in January, even above 0C sometimes, right?
Just making sure..................................
Come on dude, it NEVER is above 0C in January.
I don't have the will nor the desire to go through all the weather records for January, but suffice it to say, it can get above 0C in January in Winnipeg. I've played outdoor hockey in January in Winnipeg when it was about 5C, and the rinks were damn slushy. Not every year, but sometimes it sure does. Don't be surprised if you decide to go through the records that you even come across a trace of rain falling in January as well. No, I'm not kidding. February is the coldest month on average, and what happened this past year around the fourth or fifth? It RAINED, quite intensly for a period might I add.
Outdoor Classics are for the USA, January 1st. US teams for NBC.
Heritage Classics are for Canada, sometime after that. Canadian teams for CBC.
Get it straight. They are two different propositions that are non compete and are both not necessarily annual events (especially in Canada).
I agree that there will not be a game in the 'peg until the Bombers have a new home.
They will have a new stadium by 2013 and it will look very nice.
40,000 with temporary seating.
I say Edm/Wpg or Van/Wpg in 2014.
forgive my earlier rash answer, didn't read the title closely enough, honest it will probably be maybe 5-10 years before Winnipeg gets an outdoor game, one factor is if the league will avoid a lockout in 2012- i can see Winnipeg getting a game at the earliest 2015
Wait, what? This image has to be out of date. It depicts the stadium in its current location. I was under the impression is was being moved way out in the middle of nowhere near the U of M. Is that not happening anymore?
(I have absolutely no interest in football, so I haven't really been following the Bombers stadium issue too closely.)
Yeah, that picture is incorrect. This is the new stadium:
They still have a bit of the construction work left to complete.
I would be a good stadium with it being bowl dug into the ground it should offer good protection if it's windy.
We could easily have it in March as though we can get warming certainly not enough to ruin artifical ice I'd think.
A WHA Battle WPG v EDM would be nice.
If you want it melting out schedule it when the Festival du Voyaguer is on it always melts the sculptures
