That would put them at 37 points through 36 games. 84-point pace. I think 11 is pretty low for this team to have any chance at a wildcard.

I'd guess 9-12 points. Probably be 16 or 5.

As someone else mentioned somewhere we are a third of way thru year (27 games, 26 points). The 8th place team (Pit) is on pay for 97 points. So we would need 71 points in 55 games. 35-19 -1 or 34-18-3 or 33-17-5, etc.
Now you have a 10 game winning streak and it becomes reasonable, but right now doesn't look good.

It is. I think CR was suggesting a bare-minimum scenario.

I wish I could revise my vote to between 80-87. Might as play the rest of the season like a developmental AHL team because that is where it seems 1/2 the roster belongs. I feel like this has been the youngest team in the league for 5 years. At what point will they get older and have veteran leadership?

We've got quite a bit as is. But they've been around for a while, so they're scorned and dismissed as Not Savoirs that need to be traded.

It is apparent to me that Foligno. Jenner, Cam and Savard aren't leading this team to a Stanly Cup anytime soon. Are they bad players? No but they aren't the kind of veterans that should leading a team, They are solid (most of the time) role players, who on the right team, would be more valuable than they are now. The Jackets problem is they don't have a Claude Giroux or a Patrice Bergeron/David Krejci/Brad Marchand level of veteran to lead this team. Hopefully 4 to 6 years from now they all will be gone and PLD, Jones, Werenski,Tex, Bemstrom will have developed into a solid veteran group that can lead the youth of tomorrow to better things than what we are currently getting.

Agreed. This is EXACTLY what I was saying in the “tanking” thread. Those older guys are not good enough to lead the team.

Might add Bjorkstrand to that new veteran group as well.

Well, some things have changed, but others have stayed the same. The good news is the Jackets are much better off on Jan 31 than a couple of months ago.

The class of the East: Capitals and Bruins

    Near locks: Penguins, Lightning

Battling it out: Islanders, Panthers, Jackets, Hurricanes, Leafs, Flyers

Point per game: Sabres, Canadiens, Rangers

Lafrenièr Sweepstakes: Devils, Sens, Red Wings

Six teams battling for 4 spots, and we are one of them. Panarin and co. have dropped. The Lightning keep moving up, to the surprise of no one. The Capitals and Bruins are still at the top.

I keep posting this not to be a jerk but to make sure I’m understanding the situation correctly...

Yes there are four spots but the Jackets are only eligible for three, right?

Yes, but the only scenario where that matters to the Jackets is if the Panthers and Leafs both are below the CBJ and the Metro teams are above the CBJ. (Assuming, of course, the top 4 don’t drop and the bottom 6 don’t rise.)

For both those who are and aren't keeping track of the numbers, if my math is correct, 16-7-6 gets the team to 103 points.
