How Many More Points to Make the Playoffs?

Last year's wildcard teams from the Western Division were the Kings (98 points) and the Avs (95 points).

How many points do you think will be needed to at least make the playoffs?

I tend to be a pessimist when it comes to these things. Assuming the Knights will need 98 points this year (which seems to be a very high estimate), the Knights will need 30 more points in 22 more games (as of February 17 : 68 points and 60 games played).

Should be very doable, but I've witnessed many a team collapse over the many years of watching sports.

Most probably it will come down to playing either the Sharks or Flames in the first round (Pacific Division 2 v 3).

Out of curiosity I looked up the records of the Kings and Avs after 60 games last year.

Avs: 32-23-5 (69 points)
Kings: 33-22-5 (71 points)

That’s more points than we have at the moment.

Last years Knights:

40-16-4 (84 points)

The team just needs to stay ahead of teams like Vancouver (59 points after 60 games, Arizona (57 points after 58 games), etc. Vancouver is 10 points behind the Avs pace from last year and 12 points behind that Kings team so I’ll be surprised if it takes 95 points to reach the playoffs again.

And fwiw the Wild have lost 4 in a row and 8 of their last 9 (a couple of losses were in OT and in a shootout though fwiw). After 59 games they are 9 points behind the Avs pace from a year ago.

I’m just hoping our team doesn’t go into any really long slumps and losing streaks. The recent home losing streak worried me. I thought the Nashville game would be a loss and could possibly be followed up with more losses.
