I've read enough posts to make me curious about who's wearing the orange colored glasses? I'm thinking most people will choose players that they have watched play, but maybe not? I put Orr at 10 just for that reason, but that's a hard thing to do. I never realized how difficult this would be. Here's my top 10 - I've got 4 Islanders:

    1) Bossy, 2) Lemieux, 3) Potvin, 4) Trottier, 5) Messier, 6) Gretzky, 7) Jagr, 8) Palffy, 9) Forsberg, 10) Orr.

How many and which Islanders are in your top 10?

  2. in no order
trottier, potvin, sakic, yzerman, tavares, webb, martin, toews, duchene, clutterbuck (these last 3 players have been my favorite non-isles for the past few years, and still psyched that clutterbuck got traded here)

so six but i haven't been around too long and these were just the first 10 players i thought of when i think 10 favorite players ever

Too young for the glory years. But LaFontaine, Turgeon, Kasparitis, and Tavares all make my list. I had a fallling out with the isles/hockey during the Palffy years but he is close. I would put Bure, Modano, Brodeur, Yzerman, Forsberg, and Hull as my others.

To young to remember the days before Palffy. In no particular order Hasek, Roy, Palffy, Lemieux, Kenny Jonsson, Peca, Bates (I will never forget being in that building for the penalty shot), Tavares, Sakic, Lidstrom

Couldn't keep it to a list of top 10 favorites.... had to go 15 and then cheat even more after that.

    1. Mike Bossy
    2. Peter Forsberg
    3. Bryan Trottier
    4. Brett Hull
    5. Pat LaFontaine
    6. Keith Tkachuk
    7. Zigmund Palffy
    8. Jeremy Roenick
    9. Dennis Potvin
    10. Nicklas Lidstrom
    11. Zdeno Chara
    12. Joe Sakic
    13. Teemu Selanne
    14. Steve Yzerman
    15. Ray Bourque

Honorable Mention: Chris Chelios.... due to his longevity and his comments about Bettman during the first lockout.

John Tavares will be on this list very soon.

EDIT: CRAP Saw Stump mention Darius K and I forgot all about him... definitely one of my favorite players of all time even as a Penguin (almost impossible for me)

    1) Mike Bossy
    2) John Tavares
    3) Billy Smith
    4) Denis Potvin
    5) Al Arbour ( had to do it, so much respect)
    6) John Tonelli
    7) Brent Sutter
    8) Joe Sakic
    9) Chico Resch (my original reason for becoming an isles fan)
    10) Cam Neely

So its 8 out of 10 for me.

Potvin, Billy Smith, Bossy, Turgeon, Kasperitis, Tavares, Palffy, Trottier, Kenny Johnsson AAAANNNNDDDD of course Michael Haley (no for what he did per say, for what he represented which IMO was that the Islanders weren't gonna take any more s***). By the way, i still think that pitt game is when this team became a "team".

Im not a huge hockey fan, im an Islanders fan which is why all of the players were islanders...its the only players i root for...the only other games i watch are rag$ games and im rooting against them of course

I don't even know if I have a top 10 for my personal favorites. There are players I like from around the league, but nobody that I've absolutely loved and actually spent any significant time following.

I guess I'd go with, in no particular order (other than KJ):

    Kenny Jonsson
    John Tavares
    Josh Bailey
    Adrian Aucoin
    Ziggy Palffy
    Darius Kasperitis
    Patrick Kane
    Dustin Brown
    Jonathan Quick
    Niklas Lidstrom

That's 6 out of 10. It's just because of who I grew up watching a lot of, and I can't bring myself to really root for anyone not wearing an Isles jersey. I wouldn't put any of these guys ahead of the dynasty era players or the greats of the game.

This is tough since I'm only 22.

1- Jaromir Jagr (I LOVED watching him play when I was a kid)
2- Dominik Hasek (I was ALWAYS Czech Republic when I played my bro in NHL because of Jagr and Hasek)
    3- Ziggy Palffy
    4- Mike Modano
    5- Steve Yzerman
    6- Travis Hamonic
    7- John Tavares
    8- Chris Chelios
    9- Adrian Aucoin
    10- Ryan Kesler

My list changes so much to be honest.

    1) Bossy
    2) Trottier
    3) Potvin
    4) Gretzky
    5) Tavares - extremely high, considering I wanted Duchene at the draft. Kid's done everything right since the draft - special player.
    6) Mario Lemieux
    7) Billy Smith
    8) Doug Gilmour - outstanding player
    9) Mats Sundin - really grew on me over the years. Was never appreciated for how great he was, on some pretty bad teams. (kinda like JT now)
    10) Mike Palmateer - first favourite hockey player, was a blast to watch.

So many more: Jagr, Sakic, Oates, Yzerman, Coffey, Neely, Bourque, Hull, Selanne, Messier, Lafleur, Makarov, Palffy, Turgeon, Jonsson, Hrudey.

LOL. You cheated! So let me add 5 more: Sakic, Yzerman, Selanne, Bure, Lidstrom, Modano (I'm not good at counting). Ray Bourque and Paul Coffey were both amazing and fun, but I'm not going to 20!

I'm glad everyone caught on to the spirit of the post - these are the guys that made/make hockey enjoyable-exciting and fun for you. Example: Jeremy Roenick, lol. How could you not love watching that guy play?

Hey Drex, maybe another thread, but would like to get your first hand view on the opening of Yankee Stadium, originally in 1923 (when you were a teenDrex) and most recently in 2009!

Same here. There are a lot of non-Isles whose talent I can appreciate, but none I can really say I'm a fan of. The only exception to that is Wendel Clark who of course was also briefly an Islander.
