How many 50 goal scorers this season?

Laine will go near 60. Nobody else scores 50.

Heh, just like you claimed pate was gonna be better then 97 this year. Is it this year we compare pate to Ovi 1st season or has that changed again? How did the prediction 29 winning the Calder work out? If 55 and El Capitan wanted 29 on their line he would be there regardless of what Maurice wanted so save that excuse bud.

Still have 10 players on pace to score 50 or more this season with 5 of these very close to the 50-51 goal projection.

Will be interesting to see how they hold up at the halfway point of the season.

Curent goal totals are bolded with projected (on pace) totals in brackets:

Ovechkin - 29 (74)
Skinner - 24 (58)
Laine - 23 (57)
Landeskog - 22 (53)
Scheifele - 21 (52)
MacKinnon - 21 (51)
Point - 21 (51)
Pastrnak - 21 (51)
Tavares - 20 (50)
Matthews - 16 (57)

I think at the end of the season there will only be 5 guys with 50+ goals

Laine now has 19 goals in 22 games, which puts him on pace for 71 this season.

Now, before anybody goes crazy, let me be clear that I'm not predicting that he'll actually score 71 goals, but simple arithmetic shows that he's on track for that many, as of right now.

To hit 50 this season, he'd have to score 31 goals in 60 remaining games, or .517 goals per game. Last season he scored 44 goals in 82 games, or .537 goals per game. In other words, from this point on, Laine can score at a lower rate than he scored last year, and still get 50 goals. If he spends the last 60 games this season scoring at the same rate he scored at last season, he finishes with 51 goals.

So, barring injury (the dark horse in all predictions), if you believe that Laine is a better player at age 20 than he was at age 19, it's pretty much a no-brainer that he scores 50 this season.

Insane how Laine now needs to go on a 68 goal pace from here on out to score 50. He needs 25 goals in his last 30 games.

He started the season with 21 goals in his first 24 games and since then has only 4 goals in his last 28 games!

I’d be seriously worried/wanting a trade were I a jets fan, but they’re so busy getting defensive that they don’t stop to think.. maybe this isn’t a great future. Maybe consistency would be nice. Maybe a guy should be better in his 3rd year than his 1st..

I think Tavares needs Marner to get there. Matthews needs 27 goals in his last 31 games to get there.

Don't see that happening. Him missing those 14 games really kills his chances to hit 50.

Dammit I was being nice to the leafs for once, but ya, that’s not gonna happen for Matthews.

I still don't get how a player like Laine can be on a 72 goal pace in his first 24 games and then on a 12 goal pace in the 28 games after that.

What gives?

Because the pace on his first 24 games was all one month. In November he had 18 goals, he has like 7 in the other 3 months combined.

I would like to see Connor McDavid do it just so we Oilers' fans have something positive to reflect on while missing the playoffs for the 12th time in 13 years.

McDawg has 31 goals now in 51 games this season. Last season, during the final 31 games he scored 20 goals (though he scored 24 in the final 32 games). So, he's now sitting at 51 goals in his past 82 games, and actually 55 in his past 83.

So, he has a chance.

I agree. I think McDavid hits 50 this season.
