How long can Marner or Laine hold out and their club can still expect to make the playoffs?

Can the Leafs or the Jets make the playoffs without their two big free agents?

For me the Jets won't if Laine doesn't sign by the start of the season.
As for the Leafs, I say if Marner doesn't sign by 1 December it may be too late for them to make the playoffs although they have a better shot at making it than most clubs would having a player of his caliber sitting out.

Both teams are good enough to make the playoffs without the players named.

I think so. They are both talented enough to win without them. I think Marner and Laine will regret sitting out if they do.

the Leafs maybe, I just don't know about the Jets, I think they would be hurting because Laine is so much a part of their PP they rely on.

I don't have the Jets in a playoff spot without him. They'll be hard pressed to make it even with him with that defense and that insane division.

Last season the Leafs were only 4 pts ahead of the Habs who missed the playoffs. Take Marner off their team and they lose more than 4 pts which would had left them out of a playoff spot last season.

Both Teams should still be able to make the playoffs.

Marner is probably Toronto's 4th best player and Nylander could probably put up 70+ points feeding Tavares for an entire season.

The Jets would probably be fine as well. Probably play a lot tighter defensively.

Leafs are still a playoff team without Marner, Habs and Sabres will be close though. Even with Marner I feel they took a step back this offseason.

Without 1 of Connor or Laine, Jets are a wildcard team. Without both I think they are a lottery team.

With or without Laine, Jets are taking a step backwards this year and getting younger. They will be fighting as a bubble team.

Leafs without Marner are a first rd exit team.

If Marner holds out into the season I think they trade him. If he sits his cap hit for this season will only go up, making it much more difficult to fit him in. If the Leafs can trade him for a young top 4 defenseman and top 6 forward they make the playoffs no problem.

I'm perfectly fine having Marner sit the season.
Guy's not as important as he thinks he is. we will be JUST fine without Marner. I wouldn't be upset if he never played another game for the Blue and White. I dont feel he's worth even 10M. he's a SOLID 9.5M 10M IF he signs 7 or 8 years. but seriously cap hasnt gone up that much. tell me Mitch...... WHY do you believe you deserve more money than Kucherov for and for less years? tell us Why? Why seriously.....Why?
grow up and sign a contract the money will be there and ur going to make A LOT of money here.

I love how much Toronto fans have started downplaying Marner after pumping his tires endlessly since he was drafted.

I see him winning an art Ross or multiple, but he's not a center nor a former 1st overall, guy also plays with Tavares 5on5 and gets prime pp time so I can see why the team doesn't put him in the Matthews pay bracket as well. Tbh he's my fave leaf at this point in time but the team comes first if he has to be moved or take less than his agent feels he's worth than so be it. Just get it done already

He can be a good player without being a worse player than Matthews.

Nylander-Kapanen is more than playoff caliber for a top six right wing depth.

Marner is a top player and the Maple Leafs will miss him huge if he isn't playing.

Laine is a bit more of a hit or miss kind of player.

I mean 50 percent of the teams in a conference make the playoffs right? Making the playoffs shouldn't be the hard part, it's just doing anything once you get there.

The Jets won't make the playoffs without Laine.

The Leafs most likely still would make it. If Matthews/Tavares misses a chunk of time though I could see them missing out.

Take Matthews/Tavares + Marner away from the Leafs and their team isn't too pretty

I think the Jets would miss the playoffs. Marner holding out would galvanize the Leafs though; although they would be less talented I think Nylander would have a big year and replace most of the production Marner puts up, and I also think they will win a playoff series.
