Tampa Bay
Montreal and Pitt seem to be in an everlasting race to see who can flip flop the other more. If we draw Pittsburgh in the 1st round our chances are probably 50% because they are THE worst possible matchup for anyone. Not just us. They do everything well. If we draw Montreal I'd say it's about 75% we win it unless Price beats us singlehandedly -which is possible

Mtl has always been amazing vs better team in playoff, just 7-9 years ago vs Washington and Pittsburgh, and more recently vs Boston and TAMPA (4-5 years ago)

Tampa would definitely have the advantage, but I'm telling you, don't take the Habs for granted. On all the 16 teams they are the most surprising and MTL is a powerhouse when they can enter the playoffs and almost always beat the odds.

Looking at the list of presidents trophy winners, it seems like they either win the cup, or get shocked in round 1, not much in between.

I think Boston could be difficult if we have to meet them in round 2. Question if the other wild card team wins their series do we play them in the next round or do we have to play the winner of Toronto/Boston??

Keep in mind I think the Canadiens could push that series to 6 games because Price alone is that good. Not only do they have a promising young core that'll only get better, the Lightning can be frustrated very quickly whenever players start to slump and the bad news for them is once one guy slumps (usually Kucherov or Stamkos) the whole offense can go with it

I know it's all politeness and Rose's and crap, but we would sweep Montreal. Easily the team I'm least worried about. And Price is not "that good". Its not 2015 anymore (and we smoked him that season anyway).

99%, will be an all-time choke if they get bounced in the first

Lmao. Are we really saying MTL poses absolutely any kind of threat to TB?

Nah fam. That'd be a squash.

There's plenty of playoff matchups I'd prefer to avoid. MTL is not one of them. They're probably in the 20's somewhere.

As far as I know, It will always be the winner of the Atlantic 2 and 3. But you could try it out by losing in the first round :D

Washington - 65%
Pittsburgh 70%
Carolina/Columbus/Islanders - 75%
Montreal - 80%

I voted 75-80%

They're a great team but hockey is a game of bounces more than anyone likes to admit. I think they would dust Montreal but Carolina plays a frustrating, oddball style. Pittsburgh is an enigma. Columbus could click at any time.

75-80% That's about as high as I'll give any team though. It's hockey, stuff happens. Since the lockout, there have been 4 times that the president's trophy winner has lost in the 1st round.

Pittsburgh would be a nightmare matchup if I was a lightning fan. Crosby/Malkin can absolutely win that series. Carolina and Columbus would worry me as well but would be a heavy underdog. Montreal doesn't have the skill to hang with Tampa for a full series, against most teams Habs could argue they have a goaltending advantage, but they wouldn't against Tampa.
Tampa would absolutely be a big favorite against Pittsburgh, and deservedly so. That said, considering their regular season Tampa would have a lot of pressure on them, and a Pittsburgh team with zero pressure for once could be dangerous. No disrespect to them but the difference between Montreal and Pittsburgh is that Montreal has scratched and clawed their way to their standings position, while the pens have half-assed their way to it. Pens have another level they can play at.

Are you saying they have a "switch"?

No team vying for 8th seed in the East has been good enough to beat Tampa in a 7 game series.
Tampa is going to get a tough matchup in round two against Boston, or round 3 if they get the Caps; those teams have big game players that play big when the games get big.

In the first round you're getting like Carolina, Montreal, Columbus or Pittsburgh.
Three of those teams have inexperienced playoff teams, and the other is playing like a shell of its former self. Tampa will walk through the first round.
I'd give them damn near 100% getting out of the first. IT's the second they have to worry about. They'll play a game Boston team, that knows how to win in the playoffs and plays a style that matches up decently to Tampa.

I don't get these kinds of questions. They are the best team in the league this year so they probably have the highest chance of doing what you're asking. It's impossible or futile to try and put a % on it. **** happens and luck plays a factor too so even if they get knocked out in round 1 or 2, it wouldn't be that much of a surprise.
Lmfao what?

If Tampa Bay got knocked out in round 1-2 it wouldnt be a surprise?

What are you even talking about

I'm going to 65-70 might seem a little low but then again

Carey Price could easily go full carey price and steal some games

And then you have Playoff Crosby/Malkin

I'd bet my money on tampa to make it to the 2nd round but then again anything could happen

50%. 50 for them and 50 for their opponent.

I’ve seen plenty of top regular season teams crumble in the playoffs. It’s a different game.

I doubt they don’t make it past the second round but anything is possible.

Even 68% is too low.

1) 68% * 68% * 68% * 68% = 21% to win the cup.
If all the opponents are as easy as the 1st round opponent.
Which should not happen with the 1st seed.

2) 21% (your winning chance) < 25% (actual 1st seed winning stats)

Considering 1 and 2, it should be around 90%
For example: 87% * 77% * 67% * 56% = 25%

My answer is 87%

You’re not getting a normal 8th seed this season. Whatever team Tampa draws in the first round is going to be a scrappy team that is coming off a strong stretch and has a pretty solid record as a whole.

I mean caps I'll give you but Boston got absolutely dismantled by TB last year in 5, nothing has changed except TB is even better.
