How good is Mike Hoffman?

Former QMJHL MVP as an overager, MVP of the AHL imo, fastest skater in the AHL, leading goal scorer for the Ottawa senators as a rookie. How good is he and how good will he be? Theres not a game that goes by where we dont have opposing fans come on the sens board and mention how good he looks. What is his potential? Does he keep it up?

He was damn impressive against the habs last night. Easily the most dangerous player. He's already 25 though. The man has worked hard to make it.

He appears to be a great skater which is a very valuable asset. I'll trust Sens fans to comment on the rest of his game.

He looked real good last night. Reminds me a bit of Darren Helm. Great wheels, maybe better hands than Helm, and a quicker release. His puck control in traffic impressed me the most about his game. He's not small but he doesn't strike me as the strongest guy out there.

From what I've seen (admittedly not much), if his defensive game smooths out he could be a valuable second line scorer on a good team. More likely a versatile top 9 forward. I'm just wondering what took him so long to make it to the show?

Inopportune injuries are one of the reasons. He got injured on his first call up then was injured when he would have been first call up.

He himself has admitted it has taken him awhile to adjust to every level of hockey that he's played: the Q, AHL and now the NHL.

That makes sense. Seems like he figured stuff out in his third year in the Q and 4th year in the A. If that trend continues, I might have to place 10 bucks on "Hoffman wins the Art Ross" in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

2nd line scorer who needs to work on his defense is what he is now

with his speed and iq hopefully he can improve his defensive zone coverage but is a lot of fun to watch now that he is getting comfortable

My limited view notes on Hoffman...

Mike Hoffman (LW/C) - Sparky offensive forward. A little sparkplug who has a lot of jump and enthusiasm. Has a neat offensive toolset that includes some nifty hands, a good selection of high-caliber shots and the ability to play the point on the power play. He has quick strides and can generate a good amount of speed. He is knocked off the puck and pushed to the perimeter far too easily to be a long-term NHL success as it stands currently. He doesn't possess enough gumption to play on the bottom two lines and be a positive factor unless he is dressing as a power play specialist with limited ES ice time.

Likely potential: Elite minor leaguer/Quadruple-A player, the factor that holds him back: size/strength.
Highest ceiling: Weak second line, offensive winger.

I only watched him once vs. Habs last night and he looked great.

I'm like who the hell is this 68 guy?!

Looks like a great combo of speed/hands.

And that's why you're a pretend scout

I could see that before this season but now i see his low end potential has elite minor league player and his high side as low end top line player.

How is his low end potential an elite minor league player when he's already a solid NHL player...
