How does a cup change your team's bottom-line?

I'm curious to hear people's thoughts on how a cup changes a team's bottom-line.

Let's say a team that hasn't had recent (or any) cup success goes on a spending spree and spends to the cap or nearly to it.

I can see that there will be a benefit in some more season ticket sales, some more suites, some more sellouts and a LOT of merchandise. But is that enough? I mean, most playoff-contending teams will already have their arenas mostly full every night. Will a couple thousand extra ticket sales really tilt the scales? Or is it the ability to raise ticket prices that makes the difference?

The even bigger question is, if the team does not sustain the success on the ice, is it possible that winning (or almost winning) the cup could actually hurt the team financially long-term?

How has winning the cup helped Dallas, Tampa Bay, or Charlotte?
