edit:

Since my thread was moved and I figured everything out I decided to edit my original post.

Just for fun I wanted to see how the top 50 scorers would look if the point system was 3pts for a goal, 2pts for 1st assist, 1pt for 2nd assist

edit x2: updated chart to include the difference in points and PPG, http://i.imgur.com/mZMHtEl.jpg

Ovechkin would be a God if that system was implemented. If in the future that system is implemented, people will calculate how many adjusted Ross's Ovi has.

lol. In 2015-2016 Ovi got 20 assists and 5 are 1st assists (he only got 70pts total) but his goals shoot him right up

I think a 2-1.5-1 system would make more sense if you are going to attempt to adjust them without it seeming like a complete joke. The average goal is most certainly not twice as valuable or twice as hard to come by as the average primary assist, infact I would argue that a 2-1.5 ratio is still downplaying the primary assist compared to a goal.

Huh? 3-2-1 doesn't make the goal twice as valuable as primary assist.

I feel like 3, 2, and 1 are arbitrary. In order for that to be a good way of measuring a goal has to be equal to 1.5 primary assists and 3 secondary assists, 1 primary assist needs to equal 2 secondary assists. I feel like the weights need to have some significance.

Ok, here is using the top 50 ranked people. Since I didn't use the entire league there is a chance the ranks are off but I was only doing this for fun.

It really does change the rankings.

edit: It would be a huge help to me if you can comment on the size of the picture. I am using a 4k monitor so I had to change the resolution so please tell me if the chart is really massive on your screen (also if you know what resolution your monitor is would also help)

Looking at the OP it was crazy for me to see Tavares had 31 primary assists and just 6 secondary assists.

What's interesting about this is. How Gretzky normal season points total rack up against these 321 system.

It will never happen, but I always thought a 2, 1.5, 1 was the fairest way to go (or a proportional variation).

Shows how our point system affects our perception of players. If this were the point system, Ovi would probably be regarded as the best player in the league consistently. I'm not complaining (although I am an Ovi fan), but just pointing it out. That would be quite the paradigm shift.
