I know I will be in minority...but I'm not a huge fan of matthews away from puck. Mcdavid is a much greater player away from the puck then matthews...matthews effort in the ot that led to goal was weak.

IMO, He's been better this year and in some games where he puts it together, he's really dominant. It is inconsistent though.

I agree with all this and would like to add that AGAIN Holl and Muzz were hot garbage.
And I love Big Joe but come on man...... he needs a break.

the team wasn't anywhere near their typical level of play, it wasn't two guys just as it wasn't every last one of them, every line had a passenger or two on almost every shift, this put's crazy pressure on the D. I'm not excusing them just saying it's hard to play 2 on 5

Also we lost and no one even did anything to Tkachuk for snow in Rittich. What a waste.

The worst part of it is everyone in the NHL has either seen it by now or at least heard about it, that kind of thing tends to be noticed and emulated. For the last 5 years I've been saying they need some guys who can knock sense into the opposition when called on to do it, they also seem to avoid finishing checks, that alone tends to drive me crazy. Most of the coaches I played for included "and finish your checks" as part of the daily mantra, it doesn't matter how big you are if the opponent knows he going to get hit retrieving a puck or carrying a puck or trying to get into the prime scoring area, he's not going to be so gung ho about it.

DArryl sittlrr seems like a real prick.

john tavares looks elite again.

I've fallen down and hit my head more then a few times and am pretty sure I suffer from some degree of PCS and even possibly a little impairment in my cognitive function. So if you could be so kind, could you please explain the first part of your post, I am at a complete loss as to what this could possibly mean?

Hopefully this has been a wake up call to the Nylander haters.

Jeepers mister that "hater" stuff is so over used almost as much as the "apologist" angle.

For whatever reason, Willie from time to time just goes totally flaccid, where not even cialis can help him, he doesn't skate or compete hard, he tends to avoid traffic and basically stays on the perimeter. No one knows why it happens, no one knows when it going to happen, but this malaise has occurred on an irrregular basis since he's been a Marlie/Leaf. The good news even for the most cynical among us, is that we all know and understand that when he's not allowing all the bad habits to overtake his game, he is elite. Going back over his old scouting reports, you'll find they are almost identical in their praise of his elite hands, wheels and smarts but a few go that one step farther and mention that there are some chinks in his armor, selfishness, inattention, dedication. all code words which mean he doesn't always use his talent. Are the scouts haters too?

I know it can be hard being realistic about the warts and with Willie just like with Mitch there is some bad among all the good stuff, it's not a matter of being unjustly critical it's just a matter of accepting those quirks that show themselves sometimes over too prolonged a period. That said I do agree that Willie's absence leaves a big hole and unbalances the forwards group. It will be great having him back hopefully as soon as next Wednesday v the Jets.

Hopefully a full line-up(that should be well rested) that will also includes Foligno allows us to bury them and pick up 3 W's

People love trashing on Rielly and rightfully so. But that play was Matthews to me. Sure technically that should have been Rielly's man but that doesn't take away your lack luster effort

Matthews was off the entire game so I'll give him benefit of the doubt that he had a bad game. The entire team was off not named Tavares. Man he was a beauty again last night. I miss the old Johnny

Keefe needs to start resting guys properly and I think he started that well with Jason. But Simmonds and Joe experiments needs to be over. If he has a lot of respect for them, great. Play one of them at a time

Use them to rotate each other but they can't be both iced at the same time. Worse, they shouldn't be on ice together

Why are people debating whether it was Matthews' or Rielly's fault when it was Marner that tried skating through three defenders only to cough it up. He's singularly at fault in that whole exchange. It was beyond stupid. There was no panic, no need to rush it, no need to go it alone we had possession and two great players with him on the entry. I'm still pissed about it.

Both my brother and one of my best friends have met Darryl Sittler and they both say he's a real prick.

Embarrassing effort. Rittich looked good, I don't fault him on those goals he did what he was supposed. I'm getting so sick of Rielly, he cannot defend a 2 on 1 to save his life. He needs to start taking tips from Brodie. Back to back games he absolutely butchered the coverage on the 2 on 1s. Hating him on the PP as well. Effort was disgusting from the group both games. Normally if the PP is cold I don't mind it if the guys play hard, but those were difficult games to watch. Keefe needs to prepare the team better and have them show up on time. Also Thornton is completely done. I like his experience and leadership he brings, but he is just done as an NHLer. He looked great in the first 10ish games, he's been terrible since.

The positives, JT had a decent showing. I wish he'd stop trying to dangle 1 on 4 all the time, but overall he had a good game I thought. Rittich provides stability in net. Foligno and Nylander should be in the lineup soon and give us a big boost. And we somehow managed to steal a point. On to the next one.

It was a complete f*** up by everyone but it started with Marner. Made no sense, its 3 on 3, we have possession and good entry, he decides to just throw it away. Easily could've controlled that and generated a better chance. Then on the way back they all f***ed up. Matthews didn't know where to go or who to take, same with Rielly and once again he butchered the coverage. But it all started with that Marner shot, I don't understand what the hell that was. Threw the game away in OT.

I dunno man I've met Sitts as well, he seemed like a pretty good guy to me, course it was long before his wife died, maybe things changed a little for him after that.

Regardless of that, how does a very subjective opinion of a long retired Leaf relate in any way to this thread?

What did he do? Go on a public hockey board and slam you two?

Sittler was a prince every time I met him. Signed a glossy for free. Some people have days where they're just trying to get to the end of it without letting anyone know what's going on behind the obligations of the gig.

Charity's a good rule of thumb in interactions like these.

he was nice when i met him... Palmateer was like Cambell level nice, but, maybe its a goalie thing

it must be! .... because the China Wall was like that, I met Johnny when I was 12, many many moons ago at haliburton hockey haven, he was a really great guy! I was able to introduce him much later on to my kids when they were little here in Ottawa at an oldtimers game(25 years ago so he wasn't playing anymore) just saw him in the hallway and asked if he'd autograph my kids programs, which he did and I struck up a quick convo with him, he didn't remember me, but he told my kids what a good little hockey player I was.

True asthat is, we still had plenty of time to recover from that

Marner did try to go for his own rebound. Still wasn't the most optimal play, but that play wasn't the reason why we got scored on

Especcially considering similar plays has had happend before that cost us wins

Few weeks ago, Mcdavid goes by Matthews and Matthews does't take him
I can't even count the number of times how many times Rielly goes on 2 on 1 and it's a goal

It's the pattern people are upset with, not one isolated play

Marner doesn't make that play all the time.

It looked like what you'd see in a beer league game ... one guy goes for a stupid selfish skate - Mitch ... another guy who is watching whole thing and thinking about da cold one in da room - Matty and another guy who looks like he is playing D for 1st time in a tyke game - Rielly ... but no it was an NHL OT game OMG .. if there were paying fans at Scotia it would have a BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO fest

Well in the case of my brother, he was about 10 and asked Darryl for an autograph and he said "Get the f*** out of here." That was like 1979. In the case of my friend, it was something similar. I texted him just now to ask for a reminder.

Edit: My buddy just responded. I think he's still mad about it after like 15 years LOL

"f***er dissed my corporate host at a celebrity golf tournament . The host was a former NHL player whose career was cut short early by injury . The host was paying for Sittler to be there and pumped him up . But Sittler totally was rude to him . He then launched his drive into the woods on a wicked hooked drive and told our foursome - " I autographed that ball - one of you guys can go find that and have a nice souvenir "

For the record, I trust this source entirely. Like 100% entirely he wouldn't make this up. My brother was a punk ass kid so who knows.

Wow I met him too more then once as a youngster. Amazing guy to me and my friends. Also every September training camp when we used to wait outside the gardens for autographs he always had time for us. Ask about us, school etc. But there's always different experiences i guess.

Sorry that happened. Maybe a bad day? There were a few players back in the 70s that really tried to avoid kids. More were open though I found. Tiger Williams was the bomb as I've mentioned in experiances in other posts.

I'm not famous, no one wants to meet me but if I were, I'd be friendly and decent and patient most of the time, but on occasion - if I had a bad week or the blood sugar got low and it's been a long day, people encountering me, might think I'm a prick. It happens, I've never met Sittler but from all the anecdotal stories I've heard, he seems decent but I bet he's human and may have moments when he's not on.
