Has the Hossa Hat Trick (going to the SCF with three different teams in consecutive years) ever happened before?

Hossa also has the chance to lose the finals three years in a row (with different teams). Has that ever happened before?

I read the title and literally thought it was going to be a video of him doing something stupid with a hat. The Lost finale has messed with my head.

This is the first time that a player has been to the finals in three straight years with three different teams.

It has to be the first, it seems like an obscure record. If it happened at any time then it would have been in the original 6 but even then............

If he loses will it be the first time in the modern era a player loses three times in a row, regardless of teams?

Depends on what you define as modern era. If you mean post O6, St. Louis lost in the finals three straight years from 1968-70 and there were a number of players common through those three teams.

Semi-related: Bob Rouse got to the semis or beyond six straight seasons. Who else has done that, post-expansion? I'm guessing a couple of dynasty players got traded at the right time or something, but I can't actually think of anyone.

The Islanders reached the semi-final in 1979 before winning four Cups and losing a final, so a bunch of guys from that team would qualify.

Yep, looks like 9 in total - Bourne, Trottier, Bossy, Merrick, Persson, Gillies, Tonelli, Nystrom, Potvin.

I wonder if there are any other, particularly guys who changed teams at just the right time, like Rouse.

YOW
just have to look back a few years, martin gerber did it in 3 consecutive seasons. Of course, there was a lockout in between seasons 1 and 2, and he was the backup for all 3 teams by the time they got to the SCF.

Actually Gerber missed it by one year. Anaheim went to the finals in 2003, not 2004 so he was on three teams that made it to the final in 4 years.

So eliminating players who just made the playoffs many consecutive years in the O6-era (meaning they were automatically in the semis), we have:

Dupont 7
Rouse 6
Bunch O'Flyers 6
Bunch O'Isles 6
White 6

Rouse is the only one whose teams had to win 8 playoff games in each of those seasons, to get to the semis.
