It looked at one point that it wouldn't come back and bite us with a 3-0 lead to start the 3rd. From that point Russian speed and skill took over and made our slow defense look foolish. When they scored the 4th the team did not have enough skill to come back.

Why do we have players like Olson and Cowen when we could have had Murphy? Why do we have player like Eakin and Ashton when we could have RNH? Very puzzling player selection the last few years. Our slow defense and lack of skill was exposed. We could have used an elite talent like Seguin last year too.

I thought team Canada should have gone with Pickard and Elliot (who didn't even get a invite). Oh well. Russians just wanted it more. Gotta give credit where its due.

Team lost because they ****ing sat back and choked.

Really? They weren't really slow but they made bonehead decisions.

Olsen and Cowen suck I agree, but we had enough puck movers on this team in Barrie and Ellis.

Ashton **** the bed this tournament, a huge disappointment. Eakin has all they speed but stone hands. RNH would've helped, I agree.

Team was built to play team USA TBH and they fell apart.

You can whine about the team selection all you want, but Canada was the best team going in by a pretty good margin and they choked big time.

That's all it was.

That's just stupid, Team Canada in the Olympics had the same kind of build, axed towards big bodies instead of speed and they won. Team Canada stopped playin' in the third and Visentin sucked.

Team USA was the main target in this event, not Russia, hence the big body presence.

Russia derserved it, congrats to them. They won it but coming back from 3-0 deficit, they should thank god for this result.

you're kidding right? Cowen was named one of Canada's top 3 players. actually watch the games, he was solid all tournament long. he was badly beat on one goal by a player on fire. Olsen, Gudbranson and Depres were much, much worse.

cry all you want, we were up 3-0, got cocky, sat on our butts and were thoroughly outclasses by a very gutsy team.

He choked in the final game, one of the worst games I've seen from an indivual player during the finals.

He's slow and gives the puck away like crazy.

Was it the poor selection that had them in prime position to win with 15 minutes to go?

Thread starter is the ultimate Monday morning quarterback. This was a massive choke job. Nothing more, nothing less.

Cameron screwed himself by going with size over skill on the back end. Murphy and Murray would have really enhanced this defense over the likes of Olsen and Gudbranason.

Congrats to the Russians. As strange as it is to say, they wanted it more and showed more heart than Canada.

Of coarse not because there would be nothing to complain about if they won. Thank you captain ****ing obvious. That doesn't change the fact that that better players were left off the team and now they pay the price.

YEah that's right, better players like RNH and who else? Ryan Murphy, Ryan Murray? Ryan Howse? Joey Hishon?..Anyways, RNH wouldn't change anything. It's a team sport. They've loss as a team. Changing a Cizikas or Connolly for RNH wouldn't do anything.

So why make this thread now, AFTER we lost? Stop making Canadian hockey fans look like sore losers please.

I love the hate on Eakin, not like he was the POG, as well as one of the best defensive forwards of the tourney.

We have had faster and more skilled teams before, but this group was a good team and dominated the semi final and the first 2 period of the final. the team got away from their game, the Russians got a couple quick goals and some life and outplayed Canada in the third. Pretty simple really. The team played well enough to win gold outside of one period.

Yeah, it was a great tournament and hats off to the Russians for coming back like that. They showed a lot of heart.

Also the knock on Cowen is a joke. The guy was a rock all tournament and aside from one lapse in this game was solid here as well.

YOW
There are only two player-selection decisions i will ***** about in this tournament.

- Anderson, because i thought he was the best goalie we had.
- Tyler Toffoli, because not even inviting him to either camp makes no sense to me.

the loss today probably had nothing to do with player selection though. This team stopped playing, and the key players would have been on this team no matter what. I cant see minor changes to the roster effecting the outcome.

Ryan Howse's speed and tenacity could of changed the outcome

That list was a joke. Bobkov was named Russias player of the game and he played half a game. Tarasenko willed them to victory. Player awards should be taken with a grain of salt.

Cowen looked too slow (all tournament) provided zero puck movement and offense and made many turnovers. Why he got so much credit for simple defensive plays is puzzling.

The team was fine. They just dropped the ball in the third.

agreed, pls close this thread, canada could have easily won the game had they shown the same intensity and determination as they did in the first and most part of the 2nd. Visentin's epic collapse in the third really didnt help us either. I blame the players, and they know they fu*ked up, dont have to keep saying it. At least this will be a lesson they will hopefully learn from for the future

Cowen was not one of Canada's top 3 players. He **** the bed tonight big time. Congratulations Ottawa you used a first round pick to draft Cory Cross.
