So Taylor hall had 53 points in 16-17, and 93 in 17-18. Does that mean he sucked and now he doesnt?
Hall was 24 in 16-17 with a track record of success and plenty of prime years ahead of him. Schneider is 32 and on the decline, and he only had 2 good years as a starer, 1 good year as a 1A/B, and a bunch of good years as a backup. I highly doubt Schneider is suddenly going to be a 60 game elite goalie again in his 30s.

I hardly think that 32 is a decline time for a goalie. Point taken, you don't like schneids

it is a little past decline time. just before huge drop off time. cory hasnt been good for a while.
Interesting. I always thought devils fans liked him...
Then how come no big push for goalies in the last two years?

He has like 1 goal in his last 10 games with the Ducks, and was the most guilty player we had of disappearing for weeks at a time.

Still more productive than Zacha was but.....yeah. :sarcasm:

What about his first two years with the devils? Why the selective stat picking?

Have you ever heard of the term "You're only as good as your last game"?

Cory hasn't been good since last season.

I don't know about you, but I'm capable of separating my personal affinity for a player from the objective reality of his abilities.

You can like and criticize a player at the same time. Over the course of the last 2+ seasons Cory has been, at best, inconsistent. He's had some really good, and some really bad stretches of play. And given his age it's unlikely that he will return to the player he was his first few years with us. It's possible he still recovers somewhat and is an average to above average goalie, but the days of an automatic .920+ season from him are likely gone for good.

Have goalie coaches changed at all in the last few years?

We are going to progressively start disliking him if he continues to age and get shelled while Horvat continues to excel.
I know we would not have drafted Horvat with Conte, but our fans will think what could have been.

I do think Cory can bounce back and be effective, but it’s hard to see a 30+ year old goalie coming off hip surgery somehow rebounding to being elite. I guess it isn’t impossible, but it’s a stretch.

It is impossible for either goalie to succeed with how the team is currently playing. Simply asking way too much from these guys to cover the amount of mistakes the team is making.

Don't give me this crap.

He never said he didn't like him. Just because he isn't good anymore (and he isn't, He's a .909% goalie in his 107 NHL games played, including his EXCELLENT playoff series last year), doesn't mean people hate him.

We'd KNOW better than you. How many times have you watched him play in the 2 years?

So Taylor hall had 53 points in 16-17, and 93 in 17-18. Does that mean he sucked and now he doesnt?
What a stupid rationale this is. Recent trends would suggest Schneider is no longer as good as his career average. Don't play dumb.

Yup

And in the end, it didn't do a thing.
What about his first two years with the devils? Why the selective stat picking?
Because it's now become TWO consecutive years like this and has now become a TREND. Can't you see this? I think this speaks more to what Schneider now is as a goaltender, than his first 3 years as a Devil.

So? Doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Kari Lehtonen started to decline at 30-31 and never returned to previous form, Jimmy Howard started to decline at 29 and outside of one random season, has stayed in decline form. I'm sure there's a few others. I don't wanna use Cam Ward, as I don't think he declined, as much as just had a few really good seasons in the middle, in between his first few years which sucks and his last 6 or 7 years which have also sucked.

I havent watched him much in his devils tenure. I watched him significantly in his Vancouver tenure and always thought the trade was a steal at the time.

So out of curiosity, what is the consensus on Kinkaid?

It was a steal at the time, but it's clear he's not a good goaltender anymore.

I think Kinkaid is a really good backup at the very best. He's not a guy I want on the team long term as my starter. He's probably the best goalie on the team/in the organization right now, but that speaks more to where Schneider is at then Kinkaid being really good.

You have to understand, he's no longer the goalie you saw in Vancouver. He's no longer the goalie we saw in the 2015-2016 season.

I think he should be bought out after this year, unless he somehow turns it around, but one more bad season, Shero has to bite the bullet. If he can't at least show he can be a capable backup, I see no more use for him. The Schneider we've had the last 2 years is like the 2010-2012 Brodeur. I'm just hoping his play has plateaued and not gotten even worse after the hip surgery.
