Results of the tiebreak procedure
First of all, the decision to have a tiebreaker won. 13-6 overall votes, 12-4 by voting members of this project: http://hfboards.mandatory.com/poll.php?do=showresults&pollid=97683

The tiebreaker only broke one of the ties.

Dionne beats Forsberg 10-9 in the tiebreak and will be ranked over him.
Smith and Perreault remain tied 9-9
Roenick and Lafontaine (such that they received enough support to be added) remain tied 8-8-1

It's certainly a change for me to be waiting in suspense just like everyone else for the votes to be released.

I'm really happy with the top 4 - that was my order, as well. I tried justifying Morenz over Beliveau, but just couldn't get over Beliveau's playoff record.

Looks like Stan Mikita has the inside track to finishing 5th. If anyone thinks that another player deserves to finish 5th, you'll need to show why he should be ranked ahead of Mikita (but please wait for the proper thread to be up) .

I had a hell of a time deciding between 5-7. Glad that my vote didn't change anything.

More people had Beliveau over Lemieux than had Lemieux over Gretzky? Someone voted Lemieux 5th? :amazed:

Sorry, meant to vote, but I'm an Indianapolis Colts fan and I got sucked up in the game. My vote would not have changed this order. Very happy with the top four, I thought it was a fairly clear distinction between 4 and 5, and I'm glad the voters felt that way as well.

Quite close to what we all felt like was coming. Lemieux at 5th is not too big surprise, one voter has stated beforehand that at leas Beliveau is going to be ahead of Mario in his list.

What surprises is the consensus on top-5. When have this amount of (stubborn) voters had this deep agreement? Never I guess.

Someone having Lemieux on 5th reflects badly on us a group, I'm afraid.

I don't think it is going to have too much affect. Is it really significantly more controversial than to have Hasek as 7th?

I'm sure if we polled the entirety of the hockey intelligentsia, someone somewhere would have Lemieux 5th. It's not a flaw to have a range of perspectives represented (as in also having a vote for Lemieux in 1st, which is a small but significant minority opinion).

Lemieux first is... well, defendable.

To me, it is.

I don't know about that. For me Lemieux is clearly 2nd best C ever. In a same way Hasek is clearly top-3 goalie of all-time.

But, it's good to have variety of opinions. If something, I think having different views increases the integrity of the HOH-list. Not reduce it.

Outside the bubble of hfboards, I think you'll find Hasek in #7 among goalies a much more mainstream opinion than Lemieux at #5 among centers.

Both are quite crazy, considering I find both to be clear-cut top-2 in their position.

But I think the Hasek vote actually mattered in the final rankings, unlike this one.

That might be the result of the Canadian media's own bubble. They really like Marty because of cup counting and longevity.

Neither rating is particularly defensible.
