Lalonde at #8 may be the gutsiest top 10 ranking we see in this whole thing. I'm a little surprised that his ranking of Cyclone at #13 isn't Taylor's highest rank. I'm very surprised that Russell Bowie only made one list.

Wow, I thought I had Lalonde extremely high at 15th...

While Lalonde's ranking is probably the most notable, I actually think the gutsiest ranking on this list is Lafleur at 29, behind Cook, Clarke, Messier, and especially Jagr. That ranking really took some stones since you know people will disagree rather vigorously with it.

I think this will be the gutsiest list of them all. I knew that BM would be heavy on early era guys. His comments at several points in the process were very defending of the pre-26 players.

I wasn't expecting to see Lalonde at 8 or Taylor at 13. I definitely wasn't expecting to see Dubie Bowie at 40 or Bobrov at 41. Gutsy. I don't agree, but it's gutsy. I guess I'm a little surprised to see Hockey's First Superstar behind Lalonde and Taylor. I'm surprised Lafleur is at 29. I'm shocked that Kharlamov isn't the top-ranked Soviet winger on BM's list.

Maybe he was looking at impact on the game.

Good to see Punch Broadbent on a list. I think Murph would have probably listed Punch if he was participating. Punch is a guy I'll give a long look next time.

If amnesiac was surprising for the defencemen he left off, BM is surprising for all the early players he included.

Jagr can't quite match Lafleur's 6 year peak, but career wise he outproduces him in both the regular season and playoffs. While Jagr has been knocked as a playoff performer, he has been top 3 in team playoff scoring 12 times (5 firsts), while Lafleur only did it 8 times (7 firsts with 3 of them ties).

After about 25-30 or so, is when I stopped making any changes once a player was put on, just so I could actually finish the list. I'd still be working on it if people had of left me too it.

After further review I'd say Bobrov's career is too short, only 3 years of international play, for a real high ranking.

Punch is one guy I'm starting to feel is overrated, at least as a scorer, so he might be gone next time.

Just saying that having Ray Bourque as low as 18 is crazy, in my opinion. ;)

I don't really think it is at all. BM67 places alot of value of older players which pushed Bourque down a bit. He also seems to view goalies as more important than defensemen considering the relatively higher ranking they have. While Bourque is 18th on the list, he's still the 4th defenseman on his list so really it's not out of place at all. He just values defensemen much lower than forwards and goalies.

The annointing of Morenz as "Hockey's First Superstar" is somewhat dubious. Lalonde, Taylor, and Malone came before Howie, and I don't how any of those three could not be considered superstars. Style points are surely part of the equation (the Stratford Streak certainly scores high in that category), but Taylor was every bit as skilled and flashy as Morenz, even if Lalonde and Malone weren't.

Very good list BM67, I love that you truly gave fair representation to every era of hockey. Couldn't beleive that Lalonde was eighth. That's higher than I ranked him, but defensible, even though it will catch a lot of people off gaurd.

This is a very good point :)

It escaped my notice in the first rush of surprise at seeing Ray outside the top 15.
