There is that use of the term "racist" again. Why not bias towards a group that is much more likely to commit criminal acts? Makes much more sense than the implication that white cops are "beating" black people just because.

Start arguing in good faith, daver. He never said "racist".

If your intent is not simply to waste everyone's time here, I suggest you show evidence of that.

Wow.

I just want to highlight the fact that I wrote "racial bias". Not "racist".

Then you complained about me using the word "racist" and suggested I ought to use "bias" instead.

Are you even reading the posts?

Why not just bias towards individuals who are felt to be apt to commit criminal acts, not necessarily black people, but could be of any race. That there are more blacks that fit this description doesn't automatically mean it is "racial bias", and the connotations that go along with framing it that way.

Because, again, once ALL other factors are accounted for there’s STILL a racial bias evident in the results.

I just gave you the research proving that, a few posts up.

The only possible position that could support your argument here is that blacks are inherently more likely to commit crime. Is that what you’re saying?

The $100M wasn't the only demand (also per Rick Westhead):
  • Team owners offer NHL rinks as polling stations
  • “Black suppliers” should deliver at least 10% of NHL procurement expenditure by 2020-21 season
  • NHL to put the HDA logo on rink ice
  • Black out warmup jerseys to raise funds for HDA
  • “Temporarily” change blue line to a black line

This can't be real life? If so, the NHL better not even entertain this ridiculousness or they will be out of business within 3 years. People are sick and tired of being propagandized and politicized. If the HDA wants to REALLY help (instead of trying to parlay their cause into a dangerous political agenda) they would employ the Ed Snider model in Philly.

Many years ago Ed Snider started the "Ed Snider Youth Partnership." Snider spent money to renovate the underutilized, under-funded, rinks in the Philadelphia area then started free hockey clinics for all of the inner city kids who wanted to try hockey--almost all of them are minority children. Snider's organization raised money to outfit these kids with free equipment, jerseys, lessons, teams, and ice time, etc. These kids also come to Flyers games for free.

Snider's organization has done a million times more for pushing diversity and inclusion in hockey at a REAL grassroots level than this current HDA could dream of. Why? Because they are coming at this the wrong way. Snider's Youth Program took kids off the streets so their free time could be used playing hockey, experiencing a team dynamic, learning work ethic, and boosting their confidence. This, my friends, is real work--not political demands under the guise of "helping minorities who want to play hockey."

Here's an idea...

Take that 100 million and reproduce the Snider model in every major city. Then, ask ALL players in the NHL--who truly care about the cause--to spend their free time showing up to befriend these kids, build their confidence, and teach them the game. In 15-20 years, the NHL will benefit greatly, as these same inner city kids will end up NHL stars. You want to help? Want to change lives? Do REAL stuff.

I find it extremely hard to believe that ANY hockey team on the planet--at any level--is "racist to the core" where they would turn away (or mistreat) players based on their skin color. This problem cannot be fixed by virtue signaling and doing cartoonish things like "changing the blue line black" and "turning NHL rinks into voting stations"--it can only be fixed at the grassroots level. These children need funds, opportunity, accessibility, and healthy mentors.

This HDA is starting to look bad before it even fully gets off the ground.

Well you would have to break it down further, like let’s say a low income high crime area has 40% white people 30% Latin and 30% blacks what would the arrest police encounter numbers look like?
Let’s face it a rich areas full of white people would have a very low crime rate I would also imagine the other races in the money areas are not getting arrested either.
So just by saying whites are this percentage of the population blacks and Asians are this and so on and so fourth you have to break it down way further to get any real numbers.

I don't know how much clearer that can be.

Also, this is nothing about BLM, it's about the HDA and wanting to give poor kids more chances to play hockey.

I wish you were right about this--because this is where the biggest impact could be made--but when the HDA is requesting...

"NHL arenas are turned into voting stations" and, "The blue line is replaced with a black line"...

Tell me how either of them help poor kids play hockey? This is the HDA attempting to use their platform to push the BLM activist agenda and leverage the NHL into using their league as a political weapon, period. I broke this down a few posts above--describing exactly HOW the NHL & HDA could do what you are suggesting--"give poor kids more chances to play hockey. The working blueprint already exists!

And anyone saying the cause "Black Lives Matter" does not crossover into the BLM organization--they are clearly wrong. And this is where it gets scary--here's why:

1. People, and organizations, who mean well (and through the kindness in their heart) decide to make a monetary donation to "Black Lives Matter" send it to the BLM organization (not the average black family on the street).

2. When you donate to BLM, your donations are accepted and transacted through a software portal called "ActBlue."

3. ActBlue is a "non-profit technology organization" that takes the money they raise (through the BLM organization) and funnels it directly into the Democratic Party in the United States to fund their political candidates. So, people might think their "voluntary donations" are going to help needy black people and they 100% are NOT.

4. Why is this extremely dangerous? BLM is a self-proclaimed Marxist organization. The BLM co-founders, Patrisse Cullors and Alicia Garza are openly-admitted Marxists. One of their other co-founders, Charles Wade, was arrested in 2016 for Sex Trafficking.

5. One of the main BLM fundraiser's is a woman by the name of Susan Rosenberg who was arrested in 1984 for Domestic Terrorism. Here is an excerpt from the article, dated August 8, 2020...

BLM is sponsored financially by the leftist group Thousand Currents, whose board of directors includes a convicted terrorist, Susan Rosenberg, who was active in the May 19th Communist Organization, which the FBI stated “openly advocated the overthrow of the U.S. Government through violence.” Rosenberg was arrested in 1984 and sentenced to 58 years’ imprisonment. President Clinton commuted her sentence his final day in office.

6. Is there any question that BLM "the organization" is a dangerous, Marxist organization? Zero. This is why the BLM movement infiltrated innocent protests and turned them into riots. Their goal is to destabilize the United States and other countries. And the funding doesn't stop there--as some of their main financiers have used this same playbook to fund "Colour Revolutions" in other countries to destabilize them. Why is this horrific? Simple--these "main financiers" are radical, rich, white billionaires who hate black people. They are the true racists and they are using organizations like BLM to destabilize countries under the guise of "helping the black people"--which they are ultimately hurting 1,000 times worse!

7. Any openly Marxist organization is horrific. If you do not realize just how terrible Marxism is, it's time to read, read, read.

THIS is why the NHL and the HDA need to be extremely careful with how they proceed. There's a reason ratings are down in any sport (and revenue down for any major brand) who has openly supported "BLM"--and it has nothing to do with people being "racist." Many people are wise to the dangerous game being played here. The NHL cannot--and must not--fall into this trap! Demanding things such as NHL voting stations and turning blue lines black leads the NHL directly into this trap.

I love the NHL and I love the players. I also think many in the HDA "mean well" but right now they are either misguided or seeking counsel from others--who are looking to use them to advance a dangerous agenda--and they cannot yet see it.

Please NHL and HDA--if you truly want to help minority children in life and through the game of hockey--please use the Ed Snider model and do real work. You will find that the entire NHL community will be behind you 100% (players, fans, etc.) But if the NHL/HDA continues to go down this current path, they will absolutely divide the fanbase and destroy their own league, while doing little--if anything--to actually help the kids who need it the most.

Instead of extensive gaslighting and Chewbacca tactics you could simply demonstrate that there is any meaningful link between the Hockey Diversity Alliance and any terrorist Marxist organization as you claim, and that their goal is to undermine American democracy rather than make hockey more inclusive.

I'm doing nothing of the sort.

Ok, let's start with this--when Dumba and the NHL returned, what was their core message? It was: "we all need to get comfortable with these 3 words, "BLACK LIVES MATTER." This is where it gets tricky. Yes, OF COURSE black lives matter. But the NHL decided to use the BLM branding, font, look, and plaster the BLM logo on the screens. The average person hears "black lives matter" and they automatically think BLM (the organization)--which is exactly why BLM used these words and hitched their wagon to it...

You make a statement that no rational person can argue with, such as "black lives matter" and you brand your Marxist organization around it. Simple and extremely effective.

As for the NHL and HDA requesting "NHL arenas become voting stations" and that "the blue line is painted black"--that is clear indication that HDA is expanding their platform into political (and divisive) territory. Neither of them have ANYTHING to do with making hockey more inclusive.

If the HDA & NHL truly want to make "hockey more inclusive"--well, let's see, how do you do that exactly? You reach out to the group you are trying to help (inner city, poor, minority children & families) and you provide an outlet for them to learn about, participate, and play hockey. You provide ice, coaching and equipment. And you have black, white, and people of all skin colors and backgrounds get involved. You do INCLUSIVE things such as locking arms and showing unity--not kneeling as a few, while many others stand. That's the opposite of inclusive--it's divisive.

And you certainly don't come out publicly and demand your league somehow becomes this centerpiece for voting and other divisive tactics that alienate and divide. You focus 100% on tangible resources to help minority children learn to love and play the game. It's quite simple.

Ok...

Here is the NHL openly pushing BLM the ORGANIZATION... with links to donate directly to their organization chapters (follow along):

akSMtqq.png

When you click on DONATE it goes here...

k4w9F4T.png

So yes... The NHL is directly linked to supporting the Marxist BLM organization (as I provided factual information above)... and they are also directly linked to "ActBlue" which is nothing more than a donation arm for one political party.

Now you see that the HDA comes out and requests "voting stations in NHL arenas"? Why? So they can turn their arenas into campaign farms that recruit innocent people info donating and supporting BLM under the guise of, "Come on, we want to make hockey inclusive for everyone--don't you??"

The NHL should 100% keep politics out of it... and be careful which organizations they hitch their wagon to. I truly believe they mean well, but the NHL and the HDA is being used here as a political weapon... if you can't see that, I'm sorry.

This is not good.

A multitude of different organizations identify with the BLM cause, that there are also some fringe Marxist groups among them is not a meaningful link between domestic terrorism and the Hockey Diversity Alliance. The name or the symbols are not owned by any particular group. Just as well you could look at all the different groups utilizing the American flag and suggest that because extremist militias commonly use it therefore the NHL should not.

Regarding the HDA mission, it is a new group and where it is going from here depends heavily on the resources and partners it has access to. So if we want it to provide concrete assistance in infrastructure, coaching, and equipment then it is vital that the financial resources are sufficient because none of that comes cheap.

I get it. But BLM is an openly-declared Marxist group with history of division, violence and extremism. So the NHL (and any brand looking to help a cause with genuinely good intentions) needs to be extra careful and distance themselves from it. I certainly put the NHL and the HDA in that "good intentions" group. There's no secret that the NHL is made up of wonderful people, players, support teams, etc. And I'm sure the black players especially are great people. When I heard Ryan Reaves share his story about the woman who crossed the street and got scared when she saw him--you could see the sadness in his eyes. I truly felt for him. Yes, we all want ANYONE who loves the game of hockey to be encouraged to play without bias. Clearly. I'm a firm believer that most people are good... not bad.

But the NHL & HDA need to be careful here. Instead of plastering "BLACK LIVES MATTER" in black and white (which is the BLM movement brand)--why not use a platform of something such as...

"HOCKEY FOR ALL"
"HOCKEY WITHOUT COLOR"
"HOCKEY IS FOR EVERYONE"
"ONE HOCKEY FAMILY"

... etc.

Do not hitch your wagon to a dangerous organization in any way that uses violence and dangerous rhetoric. And that means, don't support donating to local chapters of said organization.

Regarding the HDA mission, it is a new group and where it is going from here depends heavily on the resources and partners it has access to. So if we want it to provide concrete assistance in infrastructure, coaching, and equipment then it is vital that the financial resources are sufficient because none of that comes cheap.

I get it--but they are asking for $100 million! That's a lot of funding to get this off the ground. Also, as I said, the Ed Snider Youth Partnership already has the working blue print for this--tap into it! Not to mention--BLM has divided people. The HDA needs to unite people, not divide. If they start their own movement--with zero connection to BLM--there are millions of fans (myself included) that would donate financially as well as donate some of my spare time, extra equipment and hockey books, to the cause.... which is what I did with the Ed Snider Youth Partnership... and it was an extremely rewarding experience.

But once you bring "vote" or "NHL voting stations" into the conversation it becomes political and everyone loses. This is a hard stop, deal-breaker... and makes you question where the HDA is coming from or "who" is in their ear trying to use them and the NHL for gain.

Against all odds, we've managed to keep this thread open and active for nearly a full month.

Don't f*** it up - stay on topic. If you want to talk about various non-hockey leaders' opinions on genetics, I recommend Twitter.

hopefully there will be oversight of where the money goes. I have seen projects like this before and most of the money ends up being spent on consultants and dinner tabs

Haven't read this whole thread but hopefully the focus is on youth scholarships (as mentioned) and community funding/programming. Lots of organizations are only good at funding their continuing existence.
