Hockey is never going to be a very popular or accessible sport for "minorities." I think the HDA is a bit delusional in their expectations to be honest. What's next-quotas?

* Edit: I answered my own question: Hockey Diversity Alliance | Changing the Face of Hockey

"Establish specific targets for hiring, promoting and partnering with Black individuals and businesses"

Why the use of the descriptor black? Seems odd with a guy like Dumba as a "founder."

Only if the money is used appropriately and the members of HDA visit inner city kids to play street hockey, teach life lessons, etc. There would be less police brutality issues if the younger generation was more respectful and educated. A lot of the victims grew up poor and without a father figure. That often leads to drugs and disrespect of people.

Is there any business model remaining that consists of: "We make ______. We sell ______. ______ is really great! We hope everyone can enjoy ______. Please patronize our ______."

I suppose it's a big ask, but I would really like to support a business like that when I can find one.

I'm sure I can find something really great to sell you - what do you need?

Why is everyone talking about this as if the HDA is somehow asking for money for themselves?

Read the request:

"The HDA has also asked the NHL to commit to funding $100M over 10 years to battle systemic racism."

Meaning the NHL spends the money on addressing this issue. Not that they are writing a $100M check to HDA.

Comments like these...

"Now they just want money" would be a more honest way of putting this.

That's the problem. They don't need hockey. They also don't need free money, which they already get an obscene amount of. They earn nothing so nothing has any value to them.

And what is the plan exactly for the $100m? To give it to some completely unaccountable "charities" that spend it on "awareness?"

Interested to see how the NHL handles this request. Can’t see them paying $10 million a year to the HDA. But if they don’t pay something the racism/white supremacy accusations will fly their way.

On the other hand it’d be kind of funny to see the NHL extorted by the monster it created.

... stand as testimony to the reality of what HDA is trying to fight against. Namely, the implicit bias involved in jumping straight to "they just want free money" even when that is clearly not what they said in the plainest of language.

While it sounds warm and fuzzy, the utopian 'anti-racism education' is veiled racism in itself. Some groups are fair game in this propaganda while others are a protected class.

Any time groups based on skin color or heritage are formed, unity never happens, but the direct opposite. What we see now on the streets of major cities are harvests of many years of seeds of hate sown by universities, public school education and our politicians. Instead of focusing on the beauty of mankind, they always seek to divide whether for profit or political capital.

Now it's coming to an arena near you.....

I find the HDA interesting. No black American players involved as far as I can tell. I don't believe any of the Canadians involved are dual citizens which means they don't have the right to vote and so any desire to foment change, at least in the U.S. is symbolic. What is their perspective on the black Canadian experience, in particular growing up playing hockey? Why is it black centric anyway? Isn't Dumba of Filipino descent?
