I haven't collected cards really in years. I remember when I was little collecting Panini stickers that you put into the albums. Those were alot more fun as they were cheap and everyone had them. Since nobody really collected them as an investment, nobody really cared that Gretzky may be worth more Peter Ahola, if you needed him you traded him. Does anybody know if they still make those stickers?
I remember during the last few years of OPC putting gum in their cards, my dad would buy a case of boxes at the local wholesale club and we'd have gum for months. Now the only somewhat fun cards I find to collect are the ones from McDonald's. Since some of you seem to be in the know about these things, is Sidney Crosby's rookie card considered the McDonald's one as it was the first produced?
For awhile hockey cards were an obsession of mine, I remember trading a 7th Inning Sketch card of some nobody, that later on I discovered had an error in the stats, to my friend for some decent NHL players as he was going to be worth alot in the future. Turns out the guy didn't score 150 points the previous season, they accidentally put 0's on each of his stats and he had scored 15 the previous year.
I now find McFarlane figures more fun to collect than hockey cards. Partially, because those figures are nice to display if you aren't totally concerned about them as an investment. I tend to buy two of each that way in the off-chance these things ever are worth a ton of cash, I have one sealed, the other I can put on display.
This thread has me wandering down memory lane lol. Anybody remember the Kraft Dinner boxes with cards? I remember that those were considered worthless without the Kraft Dinner still in the sealed box. I wonder how many people now have 15 year old Kraft Dinner in their basements or closets.
