i don’t have an overview of how it works but re is it worth it, i think so.

pre-2005, there was no salary cap so of course, as long as your franchise has the $$$ that’s getting a free player without having to give up an asset.

in the cap era, it also usually is worth it. they don’t all make it, or aren’t all useful players when they make the league, but you still are getting a 20-24 year old guy with a proven track record against decent competition without having to use a pick or trade an asset for him. ELCs are capped so it’s not going to kill your cap and if he hits his bonuses then he’s worth that money anyway. if he really sucks, then he’s in the minors and off your cap. all you lose is one of your 50 roster spots and $$$.
