We still need another D if we lose Connauton. I’d prefer a RHS PP producer.

Adam Fox was kinda throw-in piece in yesterdays trade. I'm wondering if Canes are looking to flip him? They're stacked at RHD with Faulk, Hamilton and Pesce

Faulk would be great. That’s lot of budget to burn on our blue line, though. Maybe if Demers goes the other way to balance out dollars? Then pick up a cheaper stay at home RHD for the PK?

Hoping for a 2 year deal. Pay him more to take a lesser term. Like 10 over 2.

A 2-year deal means it will expire when Hammer is 34. If you're his agent, I don't think you want his next contract to be due when he's 35 (or older) when the 35-plus rule applies.

Maybe we’ll do some kind of balanced structure with OEL’s deal where OEL gets a lot in year one and a little in year two, where Hjalmarsson gets a lot in year one and a little in year two. Helps the budget not balloon after this season.

I doubt it. From the discussions during the draft. I don't think Fox was really a throw-in. Plus, apparently he wasn't planning on signing with CGY (who could blame him). At least in CAR he'll get more ice-time than he would in a Canadian market.

Gets my vote.

But flipside: stretch out his contract to keep AAV down, enabling you to spend more on other talent (we obviously need) now. Can always retain later to move him if needed. Retention obviously costs you money down the road, but it's spread out and your alternative is to pay more now.

14M for 3 yrs (AAV 4.3) of Hammer plus potential asset. And extra million to play with each of the first two years. And money today is always worth more than money tomorrow. That's why interest exists. Same time-weight argument applies to Cap space if players keep raising escrow.

Obviously those are arbitrary numbers to demonstrate the concept.

Green is almost 2 years older, so a three year contract would put him at 35 at the start of his last season on that contract. His playstyle may allow him to have more success as he gets older, but his overall impact is easier to find. Younger PP specialist seem to be easier to obtain than these rangy shutdown guys like Hammer and Vlasic.

He's generally been a healthy player his entire career. Last year (hopefully) was just a fluke

Or all those miles on his body finally caught up with him. Fingers crossed for the flukey season.

Yeah, probably an unusually bad season, divorce and everything.

Great player. Super. Still great with all the trouble. Imagine without it.
