Trying to find archived footage of announcements/introductions of past NHL expansion clubs appears to be difficult, so I figured I'd start this thread as a resource for those who are curious or interested in the topic. Please feel free to post any info, reflections, thoughts, pics, vids, what have you, chronicling the expansion of the NHL.

1967 - Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Oakland, St. Louis:


1970 - Buffalo & Vancouver:

1979 - WHA Merger with Edmonton, Hartford, Quebec, Winnipeg:

1992 - Ottawa & Tampa Bay:

1999 - Atlanta:

2000 - Columbus & Minnesota:



In total, the NHL has introduced 25 clubs since 1967. Since then, eight clubs have relocated. Only one team closed shop, as Oakland moved to Cleveland and later merged with Minnesota.
