If we ever win a cup, I think we'll look back on this season and how fun it was. Until then, it's just hard to think about anything but how it ended.

As I said a few times - the 1996 Red Wings aren't viewed as some kind of joke because the '97 and '98 incarnations redeemed them in retrospect. It's bizarre that Yzerman's Game 7 goal against St. Louis is such an iconic goal given how that postseason turned out, but viewed in the broader context of 1996-'98, it's just one of several great Red Wings moments.

Of course, that Red Wings team won 10 playoff games and got eliminated by the eventual Cup winner, a team that would win two Cups with the core they had. We won zero and the team that beat us got eliminated one round later. So the comparisons only go so far with regard to "both teams failed in the end". One team fell short; the other completely sh*t themselves.
