ON THE FRONT FOOTE
:canes / :jets
vanriemsdyk.jpg

The Carolina Hurricanes have made another boost to their squad with the addition of scoring winger James Van Riemsdyk from the Winnipeg Jets. Jetting the other way is defensive prospect Callan Foote, a high level defensive prospect from Carolina, someone who they've praise admirably throughout his tenure. The inclusion of Foote from the Canes shows the dedication they have to contending for the Stanley Cup after trading away one of their higher end pieces in Foote. Also included in the deal is Carolina's 2019 1st round pick, another piece for Winnipeg to play with. After trading away Drew Doughty and now JVR, the Jets are going full rebuild now gathering a core of young pieces that already consists of Elias Pettersson and Cody Glass. JVR had a modified 10 team no trade clause, but the Jets were not a team on the list.

To CAR: James van Riemsdyk
To WPG: Callan Foote, CAR 2019 1st

Winnipeg would like to thank JVR for his service. We were reticent to part ways with a core player, but with our starting goalie's health in question, we recognize that we are unlikely to contend in the near-term.

Foote gives us another solid young piece to our stable of prospects. We may use the additional 1st round pick to make further trades to add to our youth crop of PLD, Pettersson, Glass, Edmundson, Foote, Ullmark and Gustavsson.

Yeah, I know.

But Stone doesn’t fit on my roster at that cap hit anymore, and Boyle will likely end up a cap casualty as well.

Other teams might be able to give them more opportunity.
All players from around the league will go on waivers at the same time to start the season. You can't put them on waivers now, but you can make roster moves now.

That goes against what Toews told my a few weeks ago—he said I had the choice to send guys down without, but could also place them on waivers.

NURSING WOUNDS
:kings / :edmonton
William-Karlsson-Golden-Knights-2018.jpg

The Edmonton Oilers have added another young player to their squad, this time the Swedish center William Karlsson aka “Wild Bill”. In the trade, Los Angeles grabs a stash for Karlsson including defenseman Darnell Nurse, forward Danton Heinen and Edmonton’s 1st in 2020. The Oilers and GM @McDrai are taking an interesting approach to their rebuilding phase by trading for and signing young players instead of drafting them with lottery picks. Edmonton recently signed Noah Hanifin to an offer sheet, giving up their 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks for him. They also recently acquired Martin Necas from Vegas for Miro Heiskanen. Los Angeles will enter an interesting rebuild phase as they start a new era of their franchise. As the team’s third GM, @CreativeUsername will either look to retool or fully rebuild the Kings, and Nurse and Heinen give him the flexibility to go either way he chooses. The Kings still have a few pieces to potentially move if they fell like it, so more mores could be on the way.

WILSON FLIES AWAY FROM WINGS
:wings / :coyotes
cut.jpg

Colin Wilson has been dealt from the Detroit Red Wings to the Colorado Avalanche in a deal that sees a Conditional 2019 3rd Round Pick being sent the other way to Detroit. If Arizona wins the Stanley Cup next year, the pick is turned into Arizona’s 2020 2nd round pick. Colin Wilson is an American center with one year left on his 3.937M contract. Arizona gains a large contract but adds a solid point contributor on a one year deal, something they can afford with their cap space.

Against the (Kron)Wall
:wings / :nucks
p1532539054-3.jpg

The Vancouver Canucks dealt Niklas Kronwall and a 2020 2nd round pick to the Detroit Red Wings today in a cap clearing move. The Canucks received back a Conditional 5th round pick from the Wings which can be given to the Canucks at any time before the 2020 draft to the luxury of GM @Weylspin . Niklas Kronwall waived his NTC from the Champion Vancouver Canucks to the Red Wings in a puzzling move which allowed the deal to go down.

DANK JANK JOINS THE TANK
:edmonton / :wings
usatsi_9588545-copy.jpg

In their third move of the day, the Detroit Red Wings acquired Mark Jankowski from the Edmonton Oilers in a deal that sent Nikita Scherbak in other direction; Belarusian winger Maksim Sushko was also included in the deal heading to Edmonton. The players seem to be valued similarly by both GMs, and the deal seems to be somewhat of a shake-up wake-up move to encourage both players in new environments as the pair of rebuilding teams grow their young cores in preparation for playoff runs down the road.

To DET: Mark Jankowski
To EDM: Nikita Scherbak, Maksim Sushko
