I am having flash backs to a few years ago when we did this and some posters thought we had a stacked systems (Marco Roy Era) and nearly all players on the list crashed and burned. Wont mention the love in some had with a guy named Chase--but another guy some were pumping the tires on was Danil Zharkov who we drafted from Bellville.

Not sure if I am being overly conservative but the only guys I think will play over 100 games in the NHL are Yamamoto, Bouchard, McLeod, Benson and maybe Bear--some might call that a bad prediction--but if you down the list of other teams top 20 prospect--nailing 5 out of 20 would be considered a good thing

Good, we all know how much you hate bringing that up.

I’m not sure how you can look at the list of goalies in the system and think that none of them will become even a fringe starter.

He was born in St Petes and he cameover here to play hockey when he was 14 or 15 I think--he has been here 5 years I think

Most places have him listed as being born in Ontario. You don’t get citizenship by coming over to play hockey as a teenager.

I believe Maksimov was born in Ontario, but grew up in Moscow, Russia. He then came back to Canada to play Bantam hockey, before being drafted by Saginaw in the OHL Priority Draft, not the CHL Import Draft. He was considered a domestic player.

So he has dual citizenship, but represents Russia internationally.

I think Shane Starrett should be added to the list as well. In the little I've seen of him... and admittedly it hasn't been a lot... but he's looked solid in net with good fundamentals.

Of all the positions to choose from you pick goaltender as the safe bet to get an NHLer? Smart money would be betting on none of these guys working out. Goalies are far too hard to predict, and we are garbage at developing them for 30+ years.

Nope, just gets old seeing said poster bring him up in every single prospect thread.

I mentioned other former prospects as well--Chase is fun to bring up because certain posters had him making the team right after the draft and in the second year as well

Previously I also pointed out that two Euro's, Mikhanov and Niinimaki were not as good as some believed--I still have no idea why either were drafted

With how we view our prospects we have ALL seen this show before and I have become jaded. I have never been a yes person and do not fall in line with everyone else "just because". I am looking at the same prospects you guys are and I am just not see "sure fire nhlers" that some of you guys are seeing

With a guy like Maksimov I am trying to figure out why he went nearly 80 spots after where nearly all scouting reports had him--only hockeyprospects.com had him ranked were he was taken.

2017 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #99 by ISS Hockey
2017 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #77 by Future Considerations
2017 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #149 by Hockeyprospect.com
2017 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #71 by McKeen's Hockey
2017 NHL Entry Draft: Ranked #66 by NHL Central Scouting

what did not the NHL scouts see in him that caused him to drop?

Believe it or not I am looking at all these prospects beyond what is being posted on this site and what is on scouting sites and other places.

As for goalies---I like having depth in net--but goalies are hit and miss and oilers have been mostly miss with goalies over the past 30 years in the draft

in 4 consecutive drafts we have now taken goalies and this is where I start asking questions if the oilers have a plan or not

we took Miroslav Svoboda 4 drafts ago only to either lose his rights or make not attempt to retain them--Preds jumped on him right away, signed him and he will be on their farm next year

Then we drafted Wells, Skinner and and Olivier Rodrigue and it is the Oliver pick that took me by surprise--not only did we draft another goalie but we traded two picks to get him

while it is not a discussion for this year or next--but in 3 years time we will be looking around to find them icetime (if they are all still here)--there are two positions where I stress a player needs icetime to develop correctly.. Goalie and D.

It usually takes goalies longer to develop and to develop they need to face rubber. In three years time I could see Wells starter in Bake with Skinner starting in the ECHL--where does that leave Oliver? Goalies can only learn so much as back ups. Do the oilers see something with either Skinner or Wells that caused them some alarm where they needed a 3rd option sooner then later?

Or is taken Oliver a continuation of the OBC due to the fact his father works for the oilers?

We have seen this show before with this board falling in love with prospects--only to have them fall on their face in the NHL--I am guilty as anyone due to my love of Lander and Paarajivi--I still can not believe Lander was not able to make the jump from Sweden to the NHL to be a perfect 3rd line center. Then you got my love of Slepyshev--not sure if the oilers did not use him correctly or he just did not have the finish to be an nhler--it is me over valuing those three picks that has caused my to be more conservative and look beyond a small sampling of information

If you do not want me to mention Chase any more--want me to talk about the man love on Omark some had--which I still did not get the love in for him. He had a two cent head and other issues.

In reviewing our prospect list--I only see 5 guys making it over 100 games. Bouchard, Yamamoto, McLeaod, Benson(if he stays healthy) and Bear

also--this is the year I take a long look at all the players we took in the 2016 draft and see what kind of jump they make in their different leagues

a few of them are going the uni route and at some point in time Chia Pets love in with Uni players needs to show us something--

I have my concerns that our depth of prospects is not as deep as some want it to be--

for me there is one dark horse that I am not sure anyone has mentioned Aapeli Rasanen--he is one of our prospects I have high hopes for--but know full well he could crash and burn as well--Rasanen and McPhee are both at Boston Collage and it will be interesting to see how both develop this year
