So you're saying you don't have a 3rd in 2012? Which means that you're not eligible to make that RFA offer. At least that's my reading of the rules....

Compensation must be paid in consecutive years beginning with the 2012 draft. DO NOT BID ON A RFA IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE APPROPRIATE COMPENSATION ALREADY LISTED ON YOUR PROSPECTS PAGE If you do, you risk being fined - a minimum penalty of $500,000 will apply. Also, you can only bid on as many RFAs as you have compensation to pay. You cannot bid on 5 players, and then decide which ones you want to keep later, although you can prioritize offer sheets as per the description above.

It was a 3rd in 2013 if more than $2.4 million and a 2nd in 2013 if less than that. This wasn't an RFA compensation, but rather a straight up trade for his rights with conditions upon me being able to sign him. So 2012 picks are irrelevant.

Jones is simply an unsigned RFA though, right?

He was originally an Ottawa Senator this summer, and was traded to Nashville a few weeks ago. My understanding was that Matt Gee had signed (or at least qualified) Jones, because otherwise he couldn't have even traded him to me (who then traded him to Nashville). So unless Ottawa messed up big time, Jones is in the wrong grouping.

He wasn't listed as a UFA either, so must be an RFA.
