Preseason has come and gone, and for a team expected to compete for 1st overall the way they played in Preseason has made jokes about them being cup winners. Paul Byron finished 3rd in preseason scoring. Gustav Nyqvist, finished 1st in goals and 4th in points. As the Wings finished with the 6th best record.

However lets pump the breaks, A) its preseason many teams changed lines around to see what works. Wings have little depth and didnt tweek at all. B) They arent going out and aquiring talent for this reason.

During the preseason 2 moves were made. First was plucking 25 year old depth forward Dmitrij Jaskin first off it adds depth, plus at 25 he fits the current age group of players with potential be a solid 3rd/4th line player for a long time. Next up was a much bigger move, out is Caleb Jones, WPG 1st, DET 3rd 2019, the return Timothy Lijegren, Yegor Rykov and a 6th 2020.

In Lijegren we get a very good top defensive prospect who projects as a top 4 puck mover long term. Rykov is a physical not so flashy defender with all the tools to be the modern version of a shut down dman. He wont wow you but if the offense can be semi decent he may crack a top 4 but is a project and likely more a top 6 guy.

Prospect/Late bloomer watch.

Kaspari Kapanen- Started on the 4th line but a change in Chicago lead to him playing top line now with 4 points in 4 games he has developed chemistry with Matthews. Still a small sample size but with Nylander stuck on what he wants Kappy will continue to benifit.

Rasmus Anderson- Beat out by wonder Kid Jussi Vilimaki and injury to, Hamonic after defending Dube opened the door for him to be called up. Paired with Vilimaki they drew praise for their poise against a cup contending Nashville Preds team.

Austin Czirnak- At 25 hes done everything he can in the AHL to prove he was NHL ready but never got a fair shot with the Bruins. Signed as a low risk high reward bu Calgary he has stuck with Backlund and Tkchuck on the second line. Has used his speed to put up 2 points in 3 games. Still a small sample size but heres to hoping for this years Yani Gourde.

Kiefer Sherwood- Ducks are beat up injury wise(ever heard this before) with a strong showing Sherwood was able to make the roster. In a limited role he has produced 2 points in 4 games. Question is does he stick when the injury bug lowers in Duckland.
